Agreed. However, in this conflict, there's been so much attacking and counterattacking and countercounterattacking and ... that it is impossible to tell who attacked first. There is always a way either party can claim the other somehow attacked them sometime in the past, warranting defense or counterattack.

As for hte original topic: I don't th.ink the US is any more a threat to the world than any other powerful country. The problem is that it is so powerful that it can do what it wants without a consensus among other countries that it's necessary (eg. attack Iraq, Afghanistan, possibly Iran, ...). There is no other country in the world at this point that has as much power to do this as the US. This can turn out benevolent (if you happen to support the wars US supports) and malicious.

Considering current US foreign and domestic policies, I'm not sure the country is a threat to me but it certainly is a threat to world sanity. Luckily there's not enough of that around to cause concern.

Well yeah, if you compare the US to any other country of the West, they're the most dangerous ^^; arguably.

But the US has come under harsh criticism for Iraq, the world already views the US ar reckless for the decisions it makes. So step 1, admitting to a problem is already on the table here. That's were I can agree with everyone. Where I'm not goong to agree is how the US can get itself out of it's own messes (and offer the help it promised), I feel like the topic is headed in that direction, along with a debate over whether the US will ever change it's behavior. Keep in mind that I did NOT vote for McCain. If you looked at his foreign policy in comparison to Obama's, you'll realize that a complete lunatic could be in office and that we could be looking at interfering with Iran's affairs instead of an Iraqi troop withdrawal, I have basic faith in the new administration to make the US less threatening.
