First, one has to realize he holds the fate of thousands of people in his hands. If one has no such moral restriction, he's passed the first step.

Optional : if one does not care for the well-being of his people (even when they are on the verge of /or dying), it helps qualify.

Based on number 1, you also must be ok with controlling those people to do whatever "you" think is right, regardless of what they (or anyone else) think(s) or say(s).

Hrmph, i might add more. Suffice it to say, being a dictator and establishing a diktat is hard work if you're a "gentle" kind of person.

Frankly, I would use my power to round up and execute every person and entity that sought to centralize power for themselves at the cost of enslaving everyone else.

I would tear down institutions that hamper the common man being educated and learning about self governance.

Once I see that the masses have been taught to govern themselves responsibly to preserve individual freedom and liberty, I would willingly step down knowing I had done all I could do and if the masses can't keep it going, then it was doomed to fail all along.

Why would anyone on earth want this job? You would be constantly worrying about politcial rivals, mistresses trying to posion you, assanation plots, countries overtaking you, someone coming into your room at night with a knife, plus there are going to be plenty of people out there that would want you dead if you're commiting crimes against humanity.

Collect enough resources to retire, this would likely take around an hour.

I would have an endless supply of weed, booze, and p****. Maybe some drugs too if I feel like experimenting lol. I'd also kill those I don't like with the most torturous method I can come up with.

After comparing the options, I nominate BokeKaeru for dictator.

I would run and hide from even the possibility of ruling the world.

It is very fortunate for the Cosmos that I am not God.

I would put suicide booths all around the cities and towns. Stepping into one and using it would be completely voluntary. It would also be created to perform it's function in the most humane way possible; what ever that may be uncovered to be. I imagine that after a while people with a naturally low resilience would naturally select themselves out of the population. I think this would lead to a generally healthier and happier society in the long term. This is just one idea out a group that I would like to implement and experiment with. People who have a natural tendency toward reckless behaviour could also be encouraged to lower their numbers naturally as it was before modern technology came along. For example, kids that get their driving licenses for the first time and then immediately go driving at top speeds on the roads thereafter. If they crash their cars and are critically injured, I would like to deny them life saving surgery that is possible with modern techniques. I think it would punish the genetic predisposition to 'push too far'. I know I am giving very isolated examples that could be picked apart, but these are the types of policies and ideas I would like to see pursued in a dictatorship role (a hypothetical one). Perhaps then we could have a world less inclined to breed the types of situations like what happened with Lehman Brothers and so on.

Flame away. :P

A wonderful concept for corrupt police to get rid or unwanted witnesses, for disenchanted married couples to murder each other, for all sorts of criminals to commit all sorts of nasty acts.

I'd stop being a dictator, and try to reform the system such that nobody else could become a dictator either.

Give people a lot of freedom and not change too much at once, otherwise I would be overthrown and I think we're not functioning too bad anyway.

I would get out of town fast before I ended up dangling upside down from a lamp post as happened to Benito Musselini and his mistress.

The world is reasonably safe as long as we have lamp posts

If I would dictator of a wealthy nation, then I would have a high percentage of the tax money budgeted for the conquest of space.
