Obama's apporval rating has dropped to a all-time low
This media conspiracy theory would make any sense if it wasn't pretty much confirmed that elected Republican use their power to poo on science education whenever possible.

The Bin Laden bump(which was rather modest) lasted a couple weeks before returning back to its downward trend based on one single event does some rather emotional to me. Obama's support shot up with republicans to like 21% the week of Bin Laden's death from 10%.
I just don't see any reason for Obama's numbers to trend upwards in the next year or so. The economy is not expected improve much, unemployment is not expected to drop below 8.5%, there probably won't be any significant legislative accomplishments, and the war situation is as depressing as ever. I suppose the economic outlook could be wrong but as I mentioned, lately it's been wrong in the other direction. He needs a game changer.
I do not expect Obama to become more popular between now and the next election. But he does not have to have the support of a majority of Americans to win re-election. He has to have more support and/or grudging votes for the lesser evil than a freaking batshit lunatic like Bachmann or Perry.

Think now. Suppose the Republicans run Bachman or Perry (ugh!). The Obama might still be the lesser of evils, at least as far as the independent voters are concerned.
ruveyn
What's wrong with Bachman and Perry being people whom are religious? They have said nothing about any purges of people that don't believe as they do,
Did ruveyn make any comment about their religious views?
But for the record, both Perry and Bachmann have close ties to the disgusting and anti-American Dominionist movement, which seeks to impose a theocratic hell on this country.

I think the Bachmann threat has been pretty much averted thankfully(or unfortunately if you're counting on her giving the election to Obama), she's pretty much irrelevant with Perry in the race. I would think Perry's numbers would go down as well as people start to learn about his record which doesn't match the whole Tea Party act he's been trying pull lately. He's even worse than Mitt Romney on running away from his record.
I think if Sarah Palin does indeed choose to join the race, she'd be in pretty good position. Maybe it just that she hasn't been in the news much lately but Bachmann and Perry make her look really good in comparison imo.
The only republican candidate I'm convinced can't win is Michele Bachmann.
I disagree; she still appeals to a major portion of the GOP base and is a major contender.
Perry's record is awful, but he's been reasonably successful at spinning it thus far, and the general electorate is not going to bother with the five minutes of fact-checking necessary to uncover the disaster of Perry's administration.
Hm. I cannot say Palin really compares unfavorably to Perry or Bachmann, but I think Palin's time in the spotlight has come and gone. She is too shallow and vacuous even for the proles, and she has demonstrated that more than enough already.
Hopefully that's true, but with as pitiful a politician as Obama has been since assuming office it's hard to take that for granted.

I dunno. Bachmann's appeal seems rather limited to me. She mainly appeals to social conservatives and she's not going to get the ones in the south being from Minnesota. She's not a particularly articulate or even that charismatic so it's hard to see her build herself up into a serious candidate. She doesn't any record of accomplishments and has only held federal office since 2007. Obama hadn't held office much longer but he was at least one out of 100 rather than 1 out of 435.
Perry is slimey and polished enough of a politician that I think he might be able to do it but his record is horrifying. If you want one specific thing that I think would immediately turn him off to his ignorant would be supporters, tell them that he ordered that all 11 and 12 year old girls in Texas "vaccinated" from HPV with a dangerous untested drug called Gardasil.
here's a story on it where he tries to back track on it
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/08/15/p ... -research/
Not only that, he's a former democrat and supported Hilarycare back in 1993. He's a complete and utter fraud.
As for Palin, she's just got that x-factor that other politicians don't have, that "folksy" charm whatever that is. Like her or not, she's an interesting person from being a former beauty queen to being an outdoorswoman from Alaska to crusading against the notoriously corrupt Alaskan political machine to her family life that we all know way too much about. Compare that to Bachmann who is just the nervous woman with a weird effeminate husband that wants to "pray the gay away". If Palin could actually articulate policy on top of her cult of personality, she'd be hard to beat. Fortunately or unfortunately, she has not yet shown that ability. I'm saying that and I don't even particularly like her but I would never underestimate her.
Preference aside, I'm interested in how you think Bachmann's candidacy would be effected by Palin entering the race. I think that would pretty much be the coup de grâce to Bachmann's campaign after Perry stole a bunch of her supporters. Palin would probably take a big chunk out of Perry's support too. Saying that, who knows if she's even going to enter the race?
The more the merrier though, hopefully they all split each others votes and my guy can benefit. I have to imagine we'll start seeing people drop out of the race soon.
Palin entering the race would probably end Bachmann. Bachmann seemed to emerge as the replacement for Palin once it became clear that Palin was not serious about a presidential run. She almost certainly will not run- she was supposed to make an announcement one way or the other last month and never bothered. She's just hoping to string the media along for as long as possible like the attention whore she is.
Look, in the general election Paul would go down harder than Goldwater 1964, even against Obama.

There is absolutely no reason to believe that. We've already discussed the differences between now and 1964, it's not a real comparison. Goldwater did not lose because people were turned off by his ideas, he lost because LBJ in his year in office after Kennedy was assassinated was one of the most popular presidents we ever had. Wasn't just sympathy votes either, LBJ racked up more accomplishments in that one year than most have in their whole presidencies. Barack Obama is no LBJ.
The GOP could probably run Satan himself(good news for Rick Perry) and still get at least what McCain got in 2008.
It's hard to scare people about the other guy when they're already scared about you.
Obama is just trying to stay afloat right now. He tried to schedule a joint session of congress at the same time as the republican debate but people caught wind in what he is trying to do. He is just trying to create some good buzz so people will vote form him in 2012. But let's be honest, he is just hoping people will vote for him in 2012.

He's been campaigning all throughout. Nothing new, that's the only thing he's good at.
