Sejm the lower chamber of Polish parliament, has just adopted a bill to ban ritual slaughter, ie the killing of animals without prior stunning.
In Poland there are about 5,000 Muslims who are the descendants of the soldiers from the Crimean Khanate, which invaded Poland in the fifteenth century. After winning by Poland the war, our king allowed them to remain in Poland, and gave the edict allowing them to freely practice Islam even gave money from the royal treasury to build a mosque :-)
We also have 10,000 thousand Jews.

Now the two religious groups Muslims and Jews accuse our Polish MPs of religious intolerance. And Israel's ambassador accuses us of anti-Semitism :-)
I wonder why the Jews as to them something in their way that they do not like this one spot accused of antisemitism :D Jewish religious communities in Poland, sent a letter to our President to veto the "Law on the prohibition of ritual slaughter" want to make it at least allowed for religious communities such as Jews and Muslim.

And you, what do you think of the ritual slaughter, ie the animal is slaughtered without prior stunning.

It depends. I'd have to look into it more, but it's supposed to be pretty painless if done right. Most pain receptors are in the skin, after all, and if the blade is sharp enough, there'll only be a little pain and then they're bleeding out and dying. Which really makes the whole issue moot, if you think about it - we don't mind killing them, but woe to us if we cause pain whilst doing so...

Makes me think of the practice of castration for sheep.

People fuss about one method being so barbaric, and it does cause pain, but it's over quick and the animal is out and about as if nothing's wrong in a little while.

The more "humane" method takes a while to do it's job (basically tourniquet the scrotum until it dies), during which all that time the animal knows something is wrong and suffers.

If ritual slaughtering is to be done and the animal is killed quickly with minimal trauma and eaten I don't see what's wrong with it.

I do not feel that Halal muslim meat is slaughtered in any way humanely. I will avoid Halal meat if possible. In the modern age of mass production of meat, I feel that Halal slaughter is not an appropriate method of slaughter.

There is a link below, the first shot shows a cow killed immediately with a bolt gun in a westernised abattoir, the room is clean and free from any bodily fluids. The rest of the film is of various animals being slaughtered for food under Halal controls.

WARNING - THIS FILM CONTAINS SCENES OF ANIMALS BEING SLAUGHTERED FOR FOOD.

THERE IS A MINIMUM AGE LIMIT OF 18 YEARS OLD TO VIEW.

LINK

For those who don't want to view, animals for Halal food are either held or restrained by machine while their throats are cut and then usually hung upside down to bleed to death. For cows the transition from cutting to inversion can take a reasonably long time. The slaughter room is heavy with blood and animals waiting are often able to view, hear and smell others being killed.

Personally I do not have a problem with that. I do not have a religion.

Yeah but that's not correct.

Can you give a bit more information on your opinion?

I think it's barbaric but the same could be said about any slaughterhouse. I think banning it is clearly motivated by factors other than animal welfare. I don't believe all religious practices should be protected by the law but ritual slaughter doesn't meet the threshold imo.

Simple argument: A wolf does not smack a sledgehammer into the sheep's head before eating it. We, at least, have the decency of a quick slice to the throat and death in 10 seconds or so...compared to getting mauled to death by wolves and most of the times, start being consumed while still alive.

In what way has a wolf got anything to do with this?

These are not hunted animals, they are farmed.

By that argument, anything up to and including eating the cow alive should be just fine.
Ever heard the term, 'naturalistic fallacy'?
We are humans, not wolves; our standards of morality are human, and not lupine.

And, no: it's not 10 seconds. It's more like about 2-5 minutes. I've seen it.

You're right, I think Sejm (the parliament), did good by enacting the ban.

Only now the Jewish lobby, make us look as antisemites who are making an attack on the ancient Jewish traditions.

I have nothing to Jews, I even admire the Jewish people for their endurance and compassion for what they went through..

But I do not understand and do not accept certain rituals such as the ritual slaughter - why prolong the suffering of the poor animal. Second I do not understand a ritual circumcision of boys, without medical justification to deprive the boys a substantial part of their body, and the possibility of experiencing satisfying orgasms during adolescence :D

This is what I wrote above also applies to Muslims too.

Off topic, as far as I know circumcision is made under the pretext of hygiene but is a useful tool to discourage masturbation and deny those satisfactions that you describe.

As a Catholic and a believer, I am against masturbation and lust, but as a human, I believe that no power in both church, secular as well as the parent should not interfere in it that way. This is between us and God, or priest confessor which, according to Catholic doctrine is the representative of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in my case :-)
