Actually, I would have said that accusing Yahweh/Jehovah of intolerance was fairly old hat among many neurotypicals as well. I can certainly relate to this point of view, having felt this way myself, this is from a Christian Aspergian. I think one thing that should be avoided is a dichotomy between the Old and New Testament, arguing one is all about justice, the other about mercy, or law/grace or whatever. In the Old Testament book of the prophet Isaiah mercy and judgement exist side by side. Yes, I am aware of scholarly views tending to concurr on a minimum of three authors from different times for this work, but the contrasts are within the same passage. With regard to Isaiah, there is an ardent concern for what is sometimes called social justice, alongside a zeal for religious monotheism. These are both part of the covenant. In the light of some of the injustices of Isaiah's, Jesus' or our own day, is their not a valid concern that allowing humans to continue their wicked way indefinitely would not be mercy but rather callous and apathetic indifference on God's part both to the sufferers of injustice and to the oppressors left to corrupt themselves?
Another thing. In the Hebrew Scriptures Vayiqra' ("and he called")/Leviticus may have a rather bad reputation on account of chapter eighteen (basically, the chapter of explicit sexual prohibitions) particularly on account of a strident homophobia. But if it and some other scrolls of the Torah/Pentateuchwere to be thrown out altogether, there are passages concerning Jubilee and cancelling debts, there are the words quoted in the Gospels by Jesus as the second of the two great commandments, "Love thy neighbour as thyself," (the first of the two, about loving God with all one's heart, soul mind and strength is from the Shma in Deuteronomy, and no this was not simply lack of originallity on Jesus' part; the scribe was asking about which of the commandments in the law were the greatest) instructions concerning the widows orphans and sojourners or foreigners (admittedly the picture can seem mixed in regard to the latter). Plus much fascinating information about diagnosing leprosy, Aaronic priestly cleanliness, animal sacrifice (the latter really upset me as a child) alright I am being slightly mischiefous here. I am uncertain where all this is going. Any thoughts?
