I sincerely believe even the most ardent gun enthusiasts of WP wouldn't go to the extremes of that heartless cretin.

That he legally owned. They wouldn't of read his 100 and some page manifesto if they could even find it, words are just words in the end too. Short of his mask of sanity slipping while the cops were there, there was nothing to could of done.

Of that, I am absolutely certain.

The current controversy in America about firearms is good. It takes some negative attention away from Asperger's. I certainly don't want any of the gun laws to get tighter, because it'll end up indirectly resulting in people on the spectrum looking worse. If some kid on the spectrum goes on a rampage with a knife because he doesn't have access to a gun, where do you think all the controversy is going to be? People aren't going to conclude that they should ban knives, they're going to conclude that the only way that they can keep themselves safe is to lockup everyone on the spectrum. If more people have to die in shooting rampages in order to protect my rights and make me look better as a person on the spectrum, then so be it. If people can't place blame on guns, they'll place more blame on us, which is why we need guns.

Nobody is going to lock you up. Nobody is going to ban guns. The hysterics in the media are just that, don't take them seriously. This event is statistically irrelevant.

I really hope you're right about it being statistically irrelevant, but the blame that's placed on them is good for people on the spectrum anyway. It'd be great if activists on both sides of the debate got fired up enough to flood out all the negative attention that Asperger's is getting. As long as guns are always getting blamed but never go away, I'm happy.

So I watched the TODAY show kind of this morning. I was doing the dishes and it was playing. There was a panel of "professional" guests and the dumb arase(Matt Lauer) who hosts the show was talking with them.

The conclusion they reached at the end of the show was that people should be afraid of kids and young adults who dont socialize very much and who are quiet. That kids should warn their parents about other kids like this and that teachers need to do more about "odd" kids. That slime ball Lauer repeatedly refereed to "odd" kids who need to have a better eye kept on them. One of their guests keept saying that we should get rid of "political correctness" and start singling people out.

Ok me fellow aspie/autistic community, there you have it. That is the conclusion that the main stream media is trying to put into peoples heads these days. Think back to your own school days. Now think about the fact that people are trying to further stigmatize the "odd" children. Thats where were at with this now, yeah.

So now if you are "odd" and already worried about s**t because you have fking sensory integration issues and anxiety you also need to worry about the fact that everyone suspects you might be the next mass murder to make the head lines. Awesome.

This is where the Au community needs to step up it self.

I was an odd kid who grew up to be an odd adult, and I've never hurt anyone. Matt Lauer has demonstrated he is not a real journalist but just a hack who knows how to talk up a good game on a morning news show.
As for singling people out, that could actually lead to more deaths - of the "odd kids" at the hands of bullies.

The thought of more bullying had not even occurred to me, now I am even more upset. This is borderline meltdown trigger for me so I am going to finish this and take a break.

Dont you think its time that the Au community starting speak up for its self? Aspie kids in schools have a hard enough time fitting in as it is, many of them are not even diagnosed. Now they will be diagnosed as a potential killer and selected for paranoia rather than patients and understanding. I think it is our duty to be a little more affirmative about this. There needs to be a bigger push for our acceptance in society, alls we are getting is to race for a "cure" and more labels. We are people damn it!

God I hope that one day I can get my s**t under control. I feel like this is a calling for me.

Actually, our own Alex Planck has spoken up for the Asperger's/autism community when the media had tried to pin responsibility on Asperger's for Adam Lanza's mass murder of kids and adults. But I agree, we need to speak up more for ourselves whenever we're all scapegoated as potential psycho killers. The problem is though, so many of us have been treated like doormats our whole lives, we often lack the will power to do anything.

I used to kind of like NBC, but not anymore. It seems like the only major American news network that genuinely tried to stick up for people on the spectrum after the Sandy Hook tragedy was PBS. I searched pretty much every other major American news network's website, and confirmed that they all threw us under the bus. I used to think that PBS was kind of lame and boring, but now I believe that PBS is what every new network should be. The news shouldn't just be some propaganda show that you watch for entertainment purposes; it should actually be informative and enlightening.
