Social media might be effecting the perception, it wasn't nearly as omnipresent when Obama won, and it's certainly amplifying the anti-Trump sentiment and making it feel much more pervasive than the anti-Obama reaction, which I suspect was, how shall I say, geographically confined, to a greater extent. Where I live, kids walked out of schools, people blocked traffic in massive protests, and everywhere you turn it seems like you're hearing about how awful Trump is, and that's before I fire up the internet. I'm used to
every GOP presidential nominee being portrayed as the worst possible calamity where I live, but this has gotten pretty over the top.
