Looking at the comments on NYT, yeah - still seeing no leftists defending him. Rather leftists noting Trump doesn't deserve all the credit, that the right trying to spin the story to make all undocumented immigrants look like monsters is wrong, and noting ICE went after people who weren't even close in criminal acts to this ex-Nazi guard and questioning why it took so long to deport an actual threat. Not seeing any leftists defending the Nazi though. That said, I know for a fact some right-wingers are angry since they likely wanted him to run for office like some of their other "fine" people are.

Mr. Palij has long denied participating in any killings, saying that he had merely guarded bridges and rivers. The SS forced him to work for them, he said, threatening to kill him and his family. “I know what they say,” he told The New York Times in an interview in 2003, “but I was never a collaborator.”
But the United States government determined in the early 2000s that as a guard aiding the SS at Trawniki he was.
Yeah. They stated that he tried to claim innocence, but he was found guilty - that is leaps and bounds different from the NYT painting him as innocent. That's literally stating he
tried the innocence defense BUT it was found inadmissible and wrong.
-- Also, I was wrong before. I thought the NYT article you posted went into him being unlikely prosecuted, re-reading it the article didn't. I found that through google search. Here's more about the unlikelihood to prosecute:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/ ... ed-from-usSurprised NYT didn't state that because although it isn't a happy ending, it's still important to note.
