Socialism cannot be won through the ballot box. The working class must assert their power and run their own afairs. They must free themselves from the authority of the politicians and business owners.

Works in Scandinavia. This is the ultimate straw man. Few if any American socialists want an authoritarian dictatorship. But Republicans do. That's why they love Putin and hate the EU.

Scandinavia has social democracies. I agree that this is preferable to neoliberal capitalism. They aren't socialist economies, and neither is Venezuela.

Socialism alone isn't the issue, any ideology can be imposed by or more often corrupted by, an authoritarian dictator, even Democratic Capitalism. China has Authoritarian Capitalism. Russia has Authoritarian Democratic Capitalism. Europe has Social Democracies. The US can create it's own unique solutions. Memes and lobbyists are wise investments in future profits, but not for any of us.

so that means the opposite is automatically right?
like, if not drinking water leads to dying from dehydration, drowning must be right?

right now, capital gains are at an all time high proportion of GDP, labour is at an all time low proportion of GDP.
Work is, by design, no longer how one earns a living in this system. Fine. But don't act surprised that this doesn't work for the people who don't own any capital.

At time of writing, Jeff Bezos is earning 250 million dollar per day. Good for him. Not for the society he lives in. Don't be an idiot and prepare for violence... you can be sure Jeff Bezos already has

maybe it'd be a good idea for Americans to revise the McCarthy era rhetoric and think about whether socialized health care or communally owned public transport actually means "socialism". Markets are great at figuring out how to solve problems. They are not great at defining what the problem is.

I'd like to see a video on how socialism saved us from the Great Depression.

A great call-out of the evils of socialism.
"We know the truth about socialism."
"Socialism promises prosperity but it delivers poverty."
"Socialism promises unity but it delivers hatred and division."
"Socialism promises a better future but it always returns to the darkest chapters of the past."

The New Deal was socialism. You're welcome. The financial bailout was socialism. You're welcome. Seems socialism always comes to the rescue when capitalism fails.

Some socialist thinkers postulate that socialism is a worldwide effort, and that having a (Democratic) Socialist country here or there can't work. Therefore to condemn a particular country for not doing well under socialism is like condemning a hybrid car for not winning a race against a muscle car. But one is more sustainable in the long term than the other. I'm personally against Venezuela style socialism because it was not Democratic, Maduro is basically acting like a dictator, which is the same sort of thing I complain about with Trump. I don't think Trump is against dictators, his only objection is the threat socialism places on the capitalist elites, the 1%. A capitalist dictatorship is in my opinion, Trump's innermost desire. Socialists are the best critics of socialism done wrong.

New York's new socialist congresswoman is already a big hit! And she's just getting started!
