The only other group of people, I know of, who are as vilified by the US Media as the Nazis, is, of course the Mafia. Of course, to a lesser extent, the US Media vilifies Communists, Ku Klux Klanners, and Islamic Extremists. But, it is really just not the same.

And, just like when people think of Italians, they think of the Mafia; when they think of Germans, they think of the Nazis. I have always found that more than a bit interesting.

What kind of person thinks of the mafia when they think of Italians? I would probably sooner think of Mario or Italian food. Same as Germans, I can't imagine why one's mind would automatically go to Nazis. Guess the negative stereotypes are what automatically come to mind.

I don't think Nazi when I think Germany - I think lederhosen, beer, architecture, autobahns and good chocolate. If I think Italy, it's olives, olive oil, wood-fired pizza, pasta, beautiful art and buildings.

Maybe YOU think of Nazis when you think about Germany, but most people don’t.

I think about food.

I’m confused.

Should we not vilify the KKK? I think that’s rather commendable than otherwise...

When I think of Italy, I think of the Renaissance, art, fashion, wine, olive oil, and food.

It always comes back to food with me...

If anybody associated Italy with Mussolini and the Fascists, I would think that person is nuts.

As a German American, I'm delighted so many people no longer associate Germans with Nazis. But real negative stereotypes aren't for the most part associated with Germans or Italians. Most negative stereotypes are:

Blacks are lazy and criminally inclined.
Jews are greedy and covetous.
Latinos are illegals, rapists, murderers, and bring drugs.
Muslims are terrorists.
Poor people are lazy and steal from the tax payers through welfare.
White southerners are racists.
Etc.

These negative stereotypes are much more common in modern America.

Are you seriously denying that those negative stereotypes are common or even real?

Come on, the Germans are the most stereotyped in all of Hollywood and Television.

Poor people are scary to me, because why are they poor?

When I drive through a poor city, I get "the creeps" seeing the decay, filth, lack of care. I associate that with the people living there.

And yet, how many Americans of German extraction get expelled from the political process? How many people genuinely think Germans today are Nazis, let alone German Americans? But the stereotypes I had listed are real, and people of those groups are unfairly discriminated against.

Plenty of us here on WP are poor. I'm of the opinion that my other poor Aspies would take umbrage with your assessment.

Likely, people even further down the economic ladder scare them.

Like, bums, homeless, street people.

Few homeless people are dangerous. Though if they ever decide to organize and look for who's to blame for their plight, then maybe they will be.
