As I've said elsewhere: as a Christian, "because God said so" is reason beyond any reasoning the comparatively puny human mind can formulate, and therefore it's reason enough for me.

Until you can prove that your imaginary friend exists, this is not a good reason.

As we've already discussed, no one can prove Him externally, but I know He's real personally.

And I know the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists. Can I use that as an excuse to stop fat people getting married? After all, I don't like the idea of fat people getting married. It's wrong.

I don't like the idea of extremely fat people risking their own lives by being extremely fat, but in itself, it's not wrong.

Neither is being gay.

As you define being gay, no, there's nothing wrong with it. It's conforming your entire life to being gay that's wrong.

How is wanting to be with the person you love, 'conforming your entire life to being gay?' I think conforming your entire life to being Christian and forcing your s**t on everyone else is wrong.

Yes, I think we've proven that. You get yours "from yourself", i.e. you pull it out of your a**.

No. I think for myself.
I don't just blindly follow the imaginary man in my head, like you do. And I don't try and inflict my own views on other people when they're not harming anyone else, like you do.

It is harming other people. If I gave you stats, you'd just dismiss them, like you do every argument on the subject.

I'm a Christian, and I don't apologize for trying to adhere to God's principles for mankind.

You're mentally ill, that's what you are. You need help.
It is harming nobody. How does it harm anyone for me to want the same rights for my relationship as anyone else?

I don't think people are born gay but do believe they can be born with the tendency to go that way and then it depends on later events in their lives as to which way they go.

How later in someone's life do you think these events can influence sexuality?

Especially in adolescence.

I don't think that old. A lot of people get confused about their sexuality in adolescence. But they grow out of that. I've liked girls as long as I can remember. If any events in my life caused this, it'd have to have been before I was 5. And I can't think what.

With all respect, he did refer to facts, and religion is not a mental illness, otherwise the whole world should have gone to pot long before this. People need religion, and it does inspire goodwill in people.

Sexual orientation, however, is something that you don't have any control over, and frankly, the world needs homosexuality to reduce population growth. That and there's the problem of imbalanced male to female population ratios. Gay marriage should be legal, whilst at the same time more should be done to promote straight marriage. The decline of marriage is partly to blame for broken homes with irresponsible parents. Marriage gives the responsibility of parental partnership, and breeds more stable families.

I think it's better just to try and change society into something slightly more tolerant, that way we wouldn't even need straight 'medicine.'

Exactly, that would be the best way.

And easier as well. Prescribing 'anti-gay medicine' to the Christian gays won't stop this being a problem. There will always be gays who don't want to turn straight, and want the same rights. It's easier all round just to give them to people.

The majority should serve the minority. Makes sense to me. :? :?:

How will you be serving them? You'll be allowing EVERYONE equal rights.

Letting men marry men and women marry women will destroy the framework of our society, which will have major economic and sociological fallout.

Why this argument sounds very familiar to me?

Are you worried about child birth reduction too? lol

Just wait till it's all legalized and commonplace, and maybe THEN you'll finally see what I mean.

Well said. My only disagreement is that we did go to pot a long time ago, and sadly we seem to be surviving just fine in such condition.

Marriage doesn't make a stable relationship. And a stable relationship doesn't need marriage. Plenty of parents are married and still f**k their kids up to hell.

Blame the minority of people with mental illnesses and serious problems, unfit to be parents in the first place.

Well, that's just it... It's not really the same rights. Poor Mr. Sheep Farmer also feels unfairly judged.

Yep. And both can adopt. Or they could be bisexual and have a kid from a previous relationship. There are several ways gay couples can have kids. So the whole'kids' excuse is bollocks.

Obviously, but legalizing gay marriage will precipitate a drastic moral decline. People will start marrying animals and children, and I say that because those organizations are next in line, waiting for marriage approval after the gays get it.

I think that's right, and that one of those events would be how they choose to define themselves during their upbringing. However, extreme cases still baffle me -- gay people who always tried to be straight but never got there. I'd therefore like to talk with such people on WP; I thought about starting a whole thread to talk with such people, but I thought it might seem offensive to some... haven't decided how to title it yet, or if it's even worth starting, considering we have this and other gay threads open already. :? I would like to be better informed.
