Christians who are Christians to be good people don't deserved to be prosecuted... but most Christians are in it for vanity or for their own personal gain. People that do this deserved to be persecuted just like any other sociopath.

An extreme example of this is the Salem witch trials. The people who conducted those were pure evil.
