An extreme example of this is the Salem witch trials. The people who conducted those were pure evil.
I heard that crap thousands of times. Not all people who say they're Christians are.

If God exists and is good, then you won't. And if He isn't good, then being in hell is better than being with Him, as hell is defined as distance from God.
You have committed no act of evil that should bring hell upon you. And even deeds as small as taking care of your kitty make you worthy of heaven.
That is... if there is a God and He is good.

Not to mention the practice of exorcism on certain people believing they were possesed by demons when in fact they had a different mental condition, in the 20th century.
