Iowa is like a second home to me, while I only stay there for a few weeks per year to visit various members of my family - brothers, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, etc...

A county judge has declared the hateful "Defense of Marriage" law enacted in 1998 to be unconstitutional, for obvious reasons. It is denying the constitutional rights of gay people to marry. Because of this, gay couples have already been granted marriage licenses, especially since this window of opportunity may not last that long because the hateful will fight back.

I hope hate loses, and gay marriage is legalized in Iowa, and eventually all 50 states.

You may notice I'm fairly blunt on my stance on gay marriage. You either support freedom, or you hate gay people. It's either or, can't oppose gay marriage without hating gays, it's that simple.

Gay marriage should be legalised everywhere.

Indeed! I wish I was gay so I could have a gay marriage and stick it to those bigots!

They started doing the same thing here in Oregon (in Portland anyhow), but then they stopped it and all the marriage licenses were nulled. Believe me, the same thing's going to happen in Iowa..

Yeah. Why should a load of religious people be able to tell me who I can and can't marry?

I agree. By now with all the knowledge gained and technology and stuff like that, it comes to be pretty much stupid. And the legality of same-sex marriage shouldn't be based on religious dogmas anyway. Society is suppose to learn from history :?

marriage shouldn't be legalized at all. civil unions and other legally binding contracts? yes

marriage? no.

explanation: so they want marriage to be a religious institution and it's causing bigotry and controversy? fine....revoke marriage from law and replace it with something else with the same function.

i have no problem having a civil union with a woman i love instead of a marriage.

so really, all that's in the way of gay people having equal rights is religion.

I don't want to get married. Ragtime thinks that means I don't need to have the right to get married either. Isn't that just ret*d?

Yes, it is, and the sad part is that ret*d people have the right to get married, and you don't. Very sad.
