Ah, the futile idealism of youth.

Whether you like it or not, governments exist.

Besides, your poll is biased toward one of the 5 negative options.

Just curious how you see the options? (I put my opinion in brackets)

yes (Yes)
no (No)
only mean people (Yes but with conditions)
only others, not me (Yes but with conditions)
they should all go on vacation (this I see as ambiguous)
they haven't got enough common sense to rule over anyone, and ought to rule over themselves (No)

So I make it 3 Yes options, 2 No options and an ambiguous option.

it does exist, but I will be okay.

my poll is biased, like all of them, my poll's choices were like those polls online which ask questions about what people think on 'political ideologies' (all seeming to be 'slanted')
so i apologize for being 'slanted'
i apologize for putting the poll up and need to look up "poll", perhaps

but i also think, to some extent, that that is what they do, slant information, then put it out as fact that "This is what people said" when they were really polled; they had similar 'choices', in other words, 'slanted' ones. Hense, I don't listen to cited polls which may be later described as 'data' or any sort of "fact". just sayin 8)

okay, so interestingly enough, to poll an animal is to cut off it's horns, especially from a young cow.
Aaargh! I just have an attitude!! !

Oh...absolutely! The government should not be allowed to govern :D .

We should just have anarchy. And be as much like one particular nation that has managed to achieve and maintain anarchy! The nation of Somalia! :D

Like George Washington said, "The state is like fire. It is a useful servant and a ruthless master". The state is a necessary evil. Without it you have anarchy or state of nature. The state is needed in order to arbitrate the possible disputes among individuals. On the other hand this requires immense power which the state has. Something so powerful is extremely dangerous as history has proven consistently. The weaker the state is the less damage it can do in case it gets out of control.

Mixed views here.

I don't much like it when government makes laws I see as unjust. OTOH, at least they're (to a degree) democratically-elected. If they packed it in, I suppose big business would grab all the power, and big business isn't democratically-elected. And without government, who would run the State pension and the health service in the UK? Who would redistribute wealth from rich to poor? I guess everything would end up like the privatised bus services - all the unprofitable routes stop running and people get stranded. The quality of any individual's life would depend even more than it does now on their ability to pay, and we'd have something very much like slavery.

I much prefer a self-managed group to a hierarchy, but it doesn't look technically possible to run a giant-sized group such as an entire country as a self-managed thing. The human race got too big and I don't see how it can be divided into chunks small enough to make self-management practicable.

I lean strongly towards minarchism and anarcho-capitalism so I think if we have a government it should be tiny, very limited and only do the basics like the courts, millitary and police.I think that the power comes from the people.

I have it on good authority that Zeppelin rules.

The question is phrased in a self-contradictory way.

If its agreed that society needs a government then by definition that government should be allowed to govern.

You can quibble about the size of the government or how much or how little the government should govern.

The OP maybe able to "govern herself" but she cant govern others, and stop others from ...robbing or murdering her. which is what the police, and ergo 'the government', are for.
