A Constitutional Convention would be a big mistake. Once they call that, they lose control of the entire process. There is no guarantee that they would be able to control it.

I would say that it's fairly likely that it is the end of the US as we know it. With stuff like Project 2025 combined with Trump's talk of going after his enemies, it's fair to speculate that we're going down a dark road that could end up being like Russia (where elections are not real, where actual opposition politicians or even people speaking in opposition get taken out. MMW, the right would still claim that they're free speech while taking out people for speaking out. This is exactly the kind of Orwellian nonsense I'm used to from them) and could end up being a theocracy which would knock us way down in so many metrics.
As for if the empire collapses, there is civil war, etc. I don't know about that. If the people voted for this monster, I can't see the latter happening. I mean, what are the state governments going to fight over? Will a blue state really fight with the federal government over cutting funding because they legalize abortion? TBH, I see the blue states throwing our rights under the bus before causing any such tension. Both scenarios are scary and not at all out of the realm of possibility...
I live in Colorado, so idk we will see if the Federal Government wants to go to battle with us. But Idk we were the first state to legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational, so idk we could be a first to just give the feds the ole finger if they try to restrict abortion rights here or do any of their gross 2025 project, point being yes I think blue states could fight back perhaps.

I am a Democrat. It will be ok.
America will not collapse. It won't be the end of democracy.
Mm. Not feeling very confident.
I did some reading and research on the subject on how democracies fail/have failed around the world and throughout history and we are in a really bad place. Like everything has gone wrong at so many different levels. This is a very serious situation.
Well, he did quite enough to do massive damage. He got in three Supreme Court justices who have already taken down Roe v Wade and granted a lot of immunity to presidents.
Importantly, the Heritage Foundation's (the Project 2025 people) previous agenda for Trump's first term when no one was prepared and Trump's team was not fully "loyal" was fulfilled to like 64%. Fulfilling even a small fraction of Project 2025 would be disastrous, and given everything we know, much more than that is going to be fulfilled.
You can try to hope for the best, but we can't pretend that things aren't looking very dire.
Do you really think that Trump will face push back from Republicans? Seriously. I don't want to be rude here, but it's just been so obvious that the Republicans have repeatedly kissed his ring over the past several years. I mean, the fact that they did nothing to him after the insurrection he incited was truly the nail in the coffin.
They won't do anything. Sorry to say.
People are going to die. People are already dying.
But they won't. The populace knows nothing about politics or economics. This election proved that once and for all, although the evidence has been there for a very long time.
They will always blame poor economies or individual economic struggles on Democrats. The Republican party has propagandized this for so long. They control the narrative.

This isn't about promises, though.
This isn't "I promise to build a wall and Mexico will pay for it. I promise to cut taxes and bring down inflation."
This is "I don't know what Project 2025 is and I had nothing to do with Jan 6th, I am innocent!"
Actions speak louder than words. He's going to finish what he started and get his revenge on America.
Jan 6th he was angry. Now he's been convicted of numerous felonies, drained of any money he may or may not have had, lost all of his lawyers, made a laughingstock of his own party, and had attempts on his life. He is so much more dangerous now.
lol, their money isn't in their homes, it's in overseas bank accounts.

I believe you suffer from "now-ism." You are convinced this is the end of Democracy and some sort of unique time period.
Before the Civil Rights Act, America was not what it was today. We would have seen America of the 1950s as a racial white supremacist state (because it was).
You go further back and (white) women couldn't vote. Further back and Senators were picked by states. Even further back and black people were hunted down and forced into chattel slavery. This is not the time to point out as some sort of unique awful in American history.
I agree that he is a wanna be dictator, but am not as concerned this time around. I think he's aging and knows he's mortal, and narcissists like him won't try to create a dictatorship so that others can enjoy the power.
I also believe our system is stronger, and that the state system has rival governments that would make a Federal level authoritarian not as powerful.
Quit with the "people will die" crap that is left wing neuroticism. Its just you going down the rabbit hole too much. Relax. Even in the worst case scenario of Christian dictatorship, it won't be Hitler. We aren't demanding more land from neighbors and opening up camps.
And for us Democrats that smoke pot - the Democrats have been literally voting to round up pot smokers for decades until only recently and I still voted for the Ds. For pot smokers, we have been living in a fascist authoritarian state for our entire lives.
Lets just take you at your word and say Project 2025 is 100% going to happen.
Nazi Germany was still waaaaaay worse. You can't convince people of that because its absurd.
I'm going to try to phrase this in a helpful way - you are being neurotic. I say that because I can be too. I have to smoke some pot and relax and go "ok eh I was being neurotic."
Here is my actual prediction on how the next 4 years will go:
1. GOP will go "ok Trump nice victory there nice promise aaaaaannyway so those tarrifs, nah not going to do it. We want you to do these tax cuts then f**k off for a few years."
2. They'll do the tax cuts.
3. Deficits will soars, and will cause a bubble in some asset.
4. The bubble will burst, and the economy will go to s**t.
5. Democrat comes in and wins.
That has what has happened pretty reliably since 1920s. Only consistent policy of GOP past 100 years is tax cuts for rich.
I will believe Project 2025 is happening when I see it. Trump has a short attention span and I don't think he gives a s**t. He is a narcissist that almost died this campaign. He actually THANKED AND CREDITED HIS STAFF FOR THE WIN in his victory speech - totally different from 2016.
My take is this is a narcissist who has realized he is going to die and is now focused on creating a lasting image and wants his faced carved on Mt Rushmore. He won't get that by doing Project 2025. Ending the Department of Education would alone be a multi year congressional fight.
Relax, the system is designed so that one President can't change much without 60 Senators and over 50% of the House.
Take solace in the fact that we have a state government system that can serve as a bulwark against any Federal abuse.
We don't have 1 government in this country we have 50 states + Federal.
We made it through two World Wars. We made it through the Cold War. We made it through Watergate. We made it through Iran-Contra. We made it through Monica Lewinsky. We made it through 9/11. We made it through Trump 1.0. We made it through Biden's dementia.
We'll make it through this, too.
It's someone else's turn, you must accept that. It's been your turn for the last 4 years, with disastrous results. The economy is in the dumps. People can barely afford housing and food now. It was someone else's turn before yours and it will be your turn again when your candidate wins. Anymore, this seems to be a foreign concept. It will be okay, I promise. For the time being, if you can't focus on anything positive, give it about 6 mos and enjoy your first affordable tank of gas in the last 4 years.

So, I have a PhD in Economics and this is just nuts. Gas is as cheap as it was before Covid. The US is producing more oil than it ever has.
Also, the economy is doing fine. Inflation ended about 18 months ago. Unemployment is low and growth is strong.
Its a fantasy to say its horrible. Inflation went up worldwide due to China shutting down supply networks. Biden had nothing to do with it - in fact US inflation was actually below or at world average so we weren't "special."
Also, if you think the President has anything to do with gas - you are ignorant. There is a world market for oil. We are nothing in terms of producing even if we produce a lot.
If you want cheap gas but produce oil here in the US - its a contradiction because the US produces oil precisely because oil has been above 60-80 a barrel for a while now. US oil is about $60 a barrel to produce whereas Saudi is $7.
Regarding housing - the reason its expensive is because of LOCAL land use restrictions. It is regulation, but it is LOCAL ones. And those regulations are popular with nearly all Americans.
Blaming the Federal government for high housing costs is idiotic.

Verbose responses will not change my mind. We are not better off, we disagree. That's it. Now, it's someone else's turn. Trump won the popular vote as well as the Electoral College, allow your fellow countrymen and women their right to hold a different opinion.
