From what I understand about christianity, Jesus is God's only son because, apparently, he was the only human born without original sin, thus the barrier that original sin creates between man and god was nonexistant in the Christ. In addition to this, he not only lived a righteous* life, but a sinless one**.
Mankind is considered God's children because when he created Adam and Eve, the genetic coding for each and every human from then on was also crafted through a diving weaving of probability.
At least, that's what I can garner at this hour of the night. It fustrates me that my full mental faculties aren't accessible at this hour.
*Righteous and sinless are not interchangeabler - sinners whom have yet to have repented and accept Christ, such as many B.C. Jews, can still be considered righteous. These people basically follow God's commandments as best as they can with rightous intention.
**Save for when he was on the cross, whereas he bore all of mankinds past, present, and future sins in order to allow those who accept him as savior salvation.
Jesus was God in human flesh, not merely a man. Just clarifying.
