and the more you watch it, the stupider you become.

That is the result of a study just released by the University of Maryland that tested how accurately informed voters were on several issues that Fox has LIED to the public about. This is not the first nor the only time Fox has been shown to be spreading more lies than truth.

It's all over the internet, but one article is at
http://www.alternet.org/story/149193/st ... ou_stupid/

To quote that article:
"The fact that Fox News is so blatantly dishonest, and the effects of that dishonesty have become ingrained in an electorate that has been been purposefully deceived, needs to be made known to every American. Our democracy cannot function if voters are making choices based on lies."

I already knew this, and have known it for years. Many other people already knew it too. There are many though who rely upon Fox news as their primary source of information. I hope and pray some of them will consider opening their minds to other sources before they become brain-dead puppets of right-wing propaganda.

It is possible that the study was biased or defective?

How so? The report on current happenings. Their coverage may be biased but they are still reporting what is going on.

Well if this was the only study, but so far as I know EVERY study of Fox news confirms that they spread lies. This latest study doesn't give gold stars to any news network. For example it says MSNBC is far more accurate than Fox, but still not enough to brag about. The conclusion is that Fox is easily the worst source for misinforming the public by spreading biased opinions and falsehoods as if they were news.

That article I linked to and quoted from says in the very next paragraph:
"So the more you watch, the less you know. Or to be precise, the more you think you know that is actually false. This study corroborates a previous PIPA study that focused on the Iraq war with similar results. And there was an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll that demonstrated the break with reality on the part of Fox viewers with regard to health care. The body of evidence that Fox News is nothing but a propaganda machine dedicated to lies is growing by the day."

of course I'm sure Fox news has links to sources that claim they are the most accurate. Why don't I believe them? Because there are some issues about which I am better informed than most people where I KNOW Fox news spreads lies, and since they are so very wrong on issues I am expert in it seriously damages their credibility on other issues. Also, it doesn't take much brains to see Beck and Limbaugh using fear and ignorance to incite hatred.

Fox News might make people misinformed by spreading lies and having biased coverage, but watching Fox probably does not cause any change in a person's intelligence.

Now, if you want to consider if causation goes the other way, and being stupid makes people watch Fox News, then we're having a discussion.

There is a difference between exploiting a rumor about headlines and reporting ALL the facts.

It's an opinionated tabloid on steroids.

Fox News is NOT Facts News.

I get my new's from Infowars.com. I used to watch cable tv but I can't come to grips at how trashy it's gotten. Fox glamorizes Sarah Palin, and other trivial figures so much that it's sickening to think of how low the media has dropped to. Hey, congress has the lowest approval rating ever recorded right now, I doubt Fox news covered that ... or any news that's semi relevant at all for that matter.

CBO figures aren't fact nor are they completely objective. They're merely projections based STRICTLY on the numbers that congress gives them. Now ask yourself a question, when has anything cost exactly what the government says it will? Congress doesn't even know what's in most bills, how can you expect them to supply reliable numbers to the CBO?

Why do I get get the feeling that liberals suffer from Fox News derangement syndrome. For goodness sakes the study is from the University of Maryland which should tell you something right there.

You know all these bogus studies, vicious attacks, etc. are just making Fox News more popular because people see these kind of attacks and after the behavior of the Democrats and media elite towards average Americans, pretty much every American Conservative and most Independents couldn't give a damn what the mainstream media, liberal professors, and Democrats say anymore. Cause they have lost ALL credibility.

Yes, how dare a university conduct a study... *sarcasm*

Anyway, I don't think Fox makes people stupid, it just tends to reinforce their own paranoia and misguided ideas. Which is why one has to explore more outlets than just "Fox News".

It is a massive world conspiracy that makes everyone fall for false facts from the liberal media while heroic news source Fox news is the only one that reports the truth.

But people cannot see it!

Yes I'm sure places like the New York Times whom lost a lawsuit after concocting a phony sex scandal (or just running with a planted story take your pick) are shining beacons of Journalism. I'm leaning towards them being involved in concocting the phony scandal cause of the fact they lost the lawsuit and had to pay damages.

the important issue to me is not whether or not clusterfox affects public intelligence, but that the folks who watch it are encouraged to think cruelly about those they are taught to believe are their inferiors.
