Hi folks, hope you like the new forum - Chris's idea as you know.

This is a forum in which strong opinions are likely to be expressed, so can we all do that in a civil manner - no flames, personal attacks or hate speech please... :)

For one thing, I would much rather enjoy intellectual debates rather than undergo personal flame attacks. So far, it's been pretty good, though. :)

Vivi, what do you think of a new rule on this forum banning xenophobia and homophobia. I think it will go a long way to preventing flame wars occurring in the first place.

I don't have anyone in mind, Ascan, I just don't think it is acceptable considering we have homosexuals and ethnic minorities on WP as well.

the TOS cover this forum as it does the others - dunc's original post was to emphasise that topics in this forum are more likely than usual to evoke strong feelings and philosophies, and thereby, more disagreement. hence the request.

Rules are dangerous things to have; they're generally seen as a challenge. For example, how far can you stretch a WP rule before it's broken? I'm sure someone on the forum will have the answer to that by the end of the week. :wink:

I think those rules were just aimed at people who have a religious belief, as they sure aren't enforced when those of faith are under attack everytime they post a thread. Those who don't have Spiritual beliefs can say anything they want

People are entitled to express their disagreement with things that you or anyone posts. You cannot reasonably expect to have a rule that effectively limits replies to only those who agree with you.

Altho' you might be right in saying that the rules are aimed at religious people:
* The rules say no hate speech. True, this does seem aimed at religious people because the christian bible is loaded with hate speech.
* The rules also say no homophobia. Again, true, this does seem aimed at religious people because the christian bible is homophobic (it says that homosexuals should be killed).
* The rules also say no sexist statements. True, this does seem aimed at religious people because the christian bible is very sexist against women (it says they are inferior to men and should submit to men etc).
