I am myself a Christian diagnosed with Asperger's as well. But as a mainline Protestant (Lutheran), I would hardly describe myself as "born again," besides having been baptized as an infant.
As Aspies are one of the most misunderstood groups of people in the world, it doesn't surprise me that you've had problems finding the right fit for a church home. My own congregation has been for the most part understanding when it comes to my daughter, who has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS, though a few people who I think are critical by nature have taken more time to be brought up to speed with her. I wish my Dad could have been given a proper diagnosis while alive, because he had had rough going from time to time at church.
I hope you find success finding a church that will be a right fit for your Asperger's. And if I may be so bold, may I suggest if evangelical denominations are less cordial toward you for your Asperger's, perhaps a more mainline church would be more amiable toward you.

While I can assure you, there are very opinionated people on WrongPlanet who will argue religion and politics with you, but you have no fear of ever being rejected here because of your Asperger's. 8)

I was exposed to a weakened form of Christianity as a child, and since then I've been immune, but the actual truth value of Christianity is irrelevant here. Religion is seldom anything to do with God anyway. It's a social group. Your lack of social skills (thanks to the Aspergers) is what locks you out of the church, because the people in that church are not very good at being Christians.

I don't blame them, really. Very few Christians seem to be any good at it. They get all strung up about "was Jesus the son of God?" and "was it really a virgin birth?" and "did he rise from the dead?" and they completely miss the point. None of the supernatural stuff matters. What actually matters is what Jesus said, the teachings about how to live, and some of those are pretty difficult - which might be why so many people skip them and stick with hymns and prayers. Sigh.

In short - find another church that will accept you. And if none of your local churches do, forget about going to a "real" church and find your own group online or in another field.

No one here will try to cure you of your aspergers.

I am Autistic, and am a Christian. I find that not pinning myself down to any one denomination helps, because I can move from church to church, until I find the one that suits. I am sort of a conservative christian, however, so all these weird churches that keep popping up confuse me. I'm glad to see there are other christians here, and also that I'm not the only person with austism/aspergers who has trouble fitting into certain churchs.

If you find yourself wondering what is wrong with the churches in America, you're not alone, they are wolves in sheep's clothing leading their sheep to the slaughter, which is somewhere between one month and 1-2 years away.

Now, admittedly, that last part went right over my head.

Me too.

to the OP, churches are more or less, social clubs in Jesus' name. If the church you are at treats you like crap, keep looking. I personally find that some black churches are more accepting of differences and welcome people of other races. Also born again churches treat aspergers as a sort of demonic possession. Back when I was into the evangical scene, I was exorcised many times for my quirks, but I eventually left the church and began seeking God on my own terms which has been worth it to me.

Church and ASDs are a pain. It took me most of my life to find acceptance, and even then I am not always free of the stereotypical church clique people. I did finally find some good, supportive people in a main-line evangelical church despite still having to deal with a couple people that will gladly jerk me around.

I understand where your comming from Im an aspie who is born again and spirt filled my church and other churches Ive been to have been freindly to me, but like other people have said, people in churches often dont undersand the aspie autism issues ect. Praying is one thing, I understand God to be very understanding of everyones issues afterall he created us, its not easy being missunderstod and if its really the wrong church you might very well want to look around. I live in the UK so I dont know all the churches in the USA so cant help there. Hope this helps, it helps me to know im not alone with where im at hope thats the case for others too

You won't find any church to fit your needs. Most of them are only concerned with perpetuating themselves and preparing for the rapture. The state of religion in America is bats**t crazy.
However, you will be accepted here with your Aspergers.

Oh, no, most mainline denominations are as skeptical of the rapture horse and pony show as you are.

I attended a UMC church, and a lot of them believed in the rapture and tribulation.
I'm not skeptical of the rapture. I simply don't believe a word of it.
