I don't know if there is anything to astrology, but once in a while after seeing another war start, another bombing, etc, the words of that song come back to me, and it seems in mockery. So, allowing for it hypothetically, I briefly looked at what was taking it so long.

"When the moon is in the seventh house
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars..."

Well, there is a problem right away. It seems that different people or groups do not agree on where we are in the celestial calender (or some such) and opinion as to when it actually starts varies by hundreds of years.

"...This is the dawning of the age
Of a Aquarius, the age of Aquarius..."

Ah so, they didn't actually say we were in the Age of Aquarius, only that it was the 'dawning', which apparently can mean a whole lot of years depending on who is writing the lyrics. So I guess I can't sue.

"...Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the minds true liberation
Aquarius, Aquarius..."

Never mind 'Mystic Crystal Revelation', whatever that means, cause we are already hung up on the first line. The world could be described in many ways but 'Harmony and Understanding" is not one of them. In fact we seem to be going the opposite direction from such qualities as 'Sympathy and Trust Abounding'.

Yet I know other perspectives are possible. Some might point to 'Minds true Liberation' and other things and say it is proceeding.

Or maybe one can say it was just some Hippy stuff written for a musical. I always thought it was mostly a spacey launching point for the second song in the Medley, 'Let the Sunshine In', which was just really good R&B.

Well..

The Great "Harmonic Convergence" went just as predicted (that was a kind of reverse-apocalypse on a certain date in the Nineties when all of the ancient calender cycles all peaked at once- and all goodness and positiveness was supposed to break out).

And then the recent "Mayan Apocalypse" really did end the world as predicted, and we are all... not here now.

So why wouldnt the Age of Aquarius not also go as planned as well? Peace and understanding might still be around the corner!

Lol

But all seriousness aside....

Each 'age' is 2160 years long. So even if astrologers could agree that the Age of Aquarius had started at say 1970-one would expect a certain long several decade seque between the two ages- like how songs blend together for a few seconds on the radio.

But- like you said- they cant even agree on when the ages start and stop.

The vernal equinox precesses westward through the Zodiac. The span of time that the equinox is in each particular sign of the zodiac is that sign's "Age". And the ages go in reverse order from how the signs go in the year.
The celestial year is 25920 years. So on average each age is one twelfth of that- or 2160 years. Some astrologers say each of the 12 ages is the same length- but others say they vary in length (though they generally agree on that average length).

Right now the VE is in Pisces. It will enter Aquarius like six centuries from now.

So you would think that it would be cut and dry: that the Age of Aquarious begins when the VE enters Aquarious 600 years from now. Problem is that some of the stars in pisces overlap the part of the sky occupied by the stars of aquarious. So for two centuries after it enters Aquarious it will still be pointing to Pisces for almost 200 years.

So we wont have peace and understanding for another 600 years. But even then there will be a 200 year fudge factor because of the overlap between the two constellations.

So it might not be for another 800 years before all that harmony and understanding kicks in.

[Sigh!]

Oh well.

But on top of that astrologers disagree about even that fuzzy future date. Some say the Age of Aquarious started 500 years ago. Some say we are at the boundryline now. Some ( who date of the start of Pisces at the year zero)have Aquarius starting at 2160 AD ( in the far future, but less far in the future).

So even if you plan to hold your breath and wait for the next age they cant agree on how long you're supposed to hold your breath.

You obviously didn't live through the 60s. A lot of pop culture back then had similar messages. People were suffering through a much-hated war in Vietnam for which there was a draft which rich kids could get out of, but the average suburban boy got drafted and sent over. In addition, normal kids were coming back from the war bat s**t crazy and their families and friends couldn't help them.

And then there were the race riots, with blacks burning inner cities every summer. White kids seemed to regard the anti-Jim Crow struggle with admiration, and there was much concern among their elders and even in government that a "black messiah" would emerge to topple the govt and society. The 1967 novel Logan's Run was about a future society where all people over 21 had been eliminated as a result of a youth rebellion in 2000, and this society killed people once they reached 21.

There were protests almost daily at universities, which led to talk among conservatives of defunding higher ed. Young people were refusing to get married and have kids, partly out of fears of a future apocalypse in which Americans would starve, and partly out of feminist ideals of women's lib.

So, you had two visions of the future. One was laid out in the 1966 novel Make Room! Make Room! (you know it better as the movie Soylent Green) where the earth becomes so packed with people that there is no more farming, and people engage in cannibalism to survive. The other was the Age of Aquarius, where a new age of peace would dawn after humanity got its comeuppance. Both visions turned out to be wrong, but apocalyptic imagery was common in the 60s. Check out the cover of the 1968 Jefferson Airplane album Crown of Creation, where the "crown" is a mushroom cloud.

I am very disapointed I have to wait 600-800 years till Golden Dreams of Visions. I'll be an old man by that time.

But that is interesting about a celestial year and so on. In humankind's persistant search for higher authority the stars have long been considered. But to think in terms of 25,920 years is strange to me. I rarely think beyond a year or so. I would guess many don't think the human race has 200 more years much less 25,000. They were optimists maybe, back then.

But yes Pezar, I grew up during the 60's in and around NYC and it was much as you describe. Crazy, silly and dangerous time. But I was out of sync with it and just wanted to be a Marine. Until I saw that guy get killed by a Pungy stick booby trap in the Green Berets movie. Lost a Marine cousin too, for real. Recently, I dug up a daily report for his regiment online. Shot to pieces in an ambush in June 1968. He was in-country for less then a month.

So yes, peace was much on everyone's mind. Especially those young men of draft age, like my brother. The war had become a dark, seemingly futile, endless meat grinder to the majority of people. And then we left and supposedly learned lessons.

Makes sense. I know that I find that to be hypnotically calming.

"The Age of Aquarius" is over, the vocalists have gone home and the musicians have retired.

It was only a song, after all.

For those who doubt astrology, I bet if you told me your sign, I could have predicted that opinion. (Sorry, just intended as a joke.

I suppose whether you see it as a golden age dawning or whether you see it as 2,160 years of an increasingly tighter vice on resources and energy (ie. peak oil and all that) depends whether you consider the ruler of Aquarius to be Uranus or Saturn. Hair obviously went for the former rather than the later.

The Aquarians grew up, and they run everything now. This is their paradise.

Haven't you noticed all the peace and love?

Anyone who believed this philosophy of the '60's is seriously deluded. It's those groups that are mostly responsible for the quagmire this country is currently in.
