I couldn't vote. I would be willing to support almost any of the forms of government you have listed, as long as they are "pure," that is, in keeping with the original ideology of said system of government. Socialism, communism, anarcho-capitalism, fascism, republic. Any of these are good if they stick to their original principles. If forced to choose I would go either with a Socialist state with free health care and eductaion through PhD for all who are qualified, or a light Republic with little to no state control over anything, with a strong free market. Opposite ideologies, I know, but either one would work. It's just when we try to pull off this "let's-get-the-best-of-both-worlds" crap and filthy bureaucracies that everything gets so screwed up. I also could go for elitism/technocracy, or what Plato argued for with the concept of philosopher-kings (though today we would have to have different philosopher-king's for every aspect of government- economist to decide tax laws, doctor to decide workings of health-care system, etc.). Paramount in the issue is honesty, if a dictator calls themselves such I have much less of a problem with it. Which is why I actually have more respect for Stalin than I do for W. Also people must have their rights and freedoms, and be able to criticize the government without having to worry about getting thrown into the concentration camps/Gulag/FEMA camps. Which is why I still have very little respect for Stalin.
I say America should spend the next ten years in a heated debate over what kind of government we should have- bar nothing from consideration, even military dictatorship should be discussed as an option- and then decide what system we're going to go with, and do it. If it comes out that America wants to be Communist, I'm cool with that. If we decide on a direct democracy or rule by unelected elites, I'm fine wiht that, too. Just stop pretending to have a system of government that doesn't really exist.
