Being raised in a Jewish family I was taught that I descended from the Jews in the bible. Was I lied to??

is being jewish like being a race or pirticular ethnicity? i know judiasm is a religion, but i think being jewish is overrated these days. anyone can become a jew they just have to go through a swearing in cerimony. im mostley american wich means im a mut

It is an interesting topic--particularly given the importance that some Jews place upon belonging to the Jewish tribe, and upon how difficult it is to convert to Judaism.

Still, someone who is adopted into a family is considered fully a part of the family. It just gets tricky if someone becomes really fascinated by genealogy.

It is probably very hard to say.

My mother was always very proud of being Swedish. But, how did the Swedish people originate, and how many of her ancestors came from different places before moving to Sweden? It probably doesn't really matter--she always had a special place in her heart for all things Swedish.

To the extent that Jews today are descended from Jews of the Bible, they are spiritual descendants at least as much as genetic descendants. Even King David was the descendant of a convert to Judaism (Ruth). The genetic issue is really of secondary (if any) importance. Moreover, the issue of whether the Khazars converted to Judaism does not really dispose of any one individual's genetic history - none of the articles suggest that they were the only Jews at any point in history. There were always other communities of Jews as well.

Jews do not exist, they are a conspiracy developed by the Illuminati to distract us from the corruption of the political structure by bankers trying to get control of our money through the federal reserve.

i know a few thing about this as i have interests in genetics..

from what ive seen many Jews do have a direct linage to the ancient hebrews, but allot are also new comers who adopted Judaism throughout history, but the present day Jew is normally a mixture of these ancient hebrews and these more recent converts. but there is also allot of gibberish about Jewish genetics out there and i would ask anyone to be very critical about what they accept as facts...

Seriously, while I do think some minor conspiracies are very real, attributing everything wrong to a grand conspiracy is a major cop-out. The truth is simply that human nature is far from perfect and many horrendous actions are caused by it. And unlike a conspiracy human nature cannot be beaten, bribed, or reasoned with (at least on a large scare) it simply is what it is.
