Maybe because we were raised in non-Christian households. Maybe because we see other religions as the path to truth. I recognize that the universe is complex and cannot be explained completely, but that this lack of knowledge is attributable to the short period of time science has had to explain the world, and the vastness of the rest of the universe; not by an invisible puppeteer pulling strings behind the scenes.

You claim to have all the answers. I don't, and I find your answers somewhat lacking.

Given all the space junk up there, this might not be a good analogy...

Replace it with "a Marcel Marceau record" then.

There are other accounts of angel sightings, so don't feel too bad nightbender. Personally, I'd love to have a spiritual vision.

atheist

nobody really gives me hell for my beliefs, although i generally avoid the topic because most people can't seem to have an intelligent conversation without getting overemotional and ruining the whole thing. my parents did bug me about it for a while when i "came out" as an atheist, but now the topic is generally avoided.

To borrow from Richard Dawkins - I am agnostic about god in the same way I am agnostic about the tooth fairy. Show me a grain of evidence that points to the existence of a god.

I'm Jewish. The only time people ever give me crap is when they make false assumptions by lumping Judaism in with Christianity.

Judaism and Christianity certainly are related.

They are related but they don't have a whole lot in common. Christianity took a Jewish text that had been translated into another language and interpreted it in ways very different from the ways Judaism interprets it. Judaism has more in common with Hinduism than it does with Christianity.

The assertion of some sort of Judeo-Christian tradition is a modern myth. It's largely taking Christian values and beliefs and treating them as if they apply to both Judaism and Christianity. This after over 1000 years of the persecution of Judaism by Christians, often church-sponsored. It's politically correct foolishness. It also displaces other Abrahamic religions such as Islam and Bahai.
