I think alot of you are spending too much time trying to find out an answer.
Christmas is not a Pagan Holiday. Here's why;
Christmas is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. Where do you imply that is made out of Pagan Elements?
Most people who celebrate Christmas do it out of celebration of rebirth and renewal, based after the resurrection.

And now onto Easter,

Also celebrating the resurrection and renewal. I'm not sure but I think it's after Good Friday.
The Easter bunny is symbolic and has no religious meaning as far as I know and is result of Gitmo Nation West culture.

For those who are wanting to start a War on Christmas, I would reccomend you taking your energy to more productive means.
It really doesn't upset me that your an Atheist, I will continue to enjoy my Christmas with my family regardless.
I honestly think you wont really accomplish anything out of the war to be honest.

Best Regards,

Jake

What is Gitmo Nation? I've seen you use the phrase a lot but have no idea what it means.

Gitmo Nation West is a the pseudo-name of the Gitmo Nation West of America.
I listen to a podcast called No Agenda (Which I based off my name ) The hosts, Adam Curry and John C Dvorak will routinely refer to the U.S as Gitmo Nation West.

Gitmo Nation;
The combined Gitmo Nation West (Gitmo Nation West), United Kingdom (Gitmo Nation East) and Gitmo Nation Lowlands whose governments, in the eyes of the hosts, are in the process of stripping citizens of their rights. Hence the title GITMO after Guatonamo Bay.

It's a safe way for me not to give my exact location. Also, I find it to be humorous sometimes.

France is Gitmo Nation Stinky Cheese,
America is Gitmo Nation West
UK is Gitmo Nation East.

Best Regards,

Jake

Merry. Happy. Joyful. Blessed.

Now pass the food and beverages. Stuff your stupid ass culture war where the sun don't shine. Eat, drink, and be merry.

No matter how I feel about what you believe, I can love you if you will only attempt to do the same.

One of the reasons I use a living Norfolk pine.Since it's a houseplant I can reuse it every year.

Ēostre or Ostara (Northumbrian Old English: Ēostre; West Saxon Old English: Ēastre; Old High German: *Ôstara) is a goddess in Germanic paganism who, by way of the Germanic month bearing her name (Northumbrian: Ēosturmōnaþ; West Saxon: Ēastermōnaþ; Old High German: Ôstarmânoth), is the namesake of the festival of Easter. Ēostre is attested by Bede in his 8th-century work De temporum ratione, where Bede states that during Ēosturmōnaþ (the equivalent to the month of April) feasts were held in Eostre's honor among the pagan Anglo-Saxons, but had died out by the time of his writing, replaced by the Christian "Paschal month" (a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus).

first paragraph, wikipedia, footnotes at bottom.

still about 50 variations thereof depending on region and time period you are looking at.

The germanic deity makes more sense than Ishtar.

So what I'm seeing is Easter today is a Christian holiday, we just call it the name of a German pagan holiday because "Paschal month" is too many syllables.

That makes sense. Sorta.

Is this going to be one of those "endless wars" like the drug war?

I don't really feel any need to love anyone but the people in my family. For everyone else, you'll receive indifference and tolerance only.

For that matter, I am not a pagan, I lack belief in mother nature as much as the Christian god.

Your "Flying Sphagetti Monster" picture is both hilarious and offensive at the same time.

I like the tasteful light displays. Some of those are beautiful. But the inflatable corny Santa's and Snowmen, cheesy music blaring, ugh.Maybe the war on Christmas should involve treating it like Halloween,we get to go door to door demanding presents and if we don't receive any we get to pop the Santa. Now that sounds like fun.

I insist on having Christmas these days. Even though I'm not especially keen on the actual sacchariness of Christmas (Christmas trees in November? Piss off!), I demand that Christmas remains strong for those all-important cultural reasons.

And because eating a lot and getting pissed is a good thing to do and an excuse for that is always good. Oh, and being with family obviously.

I don't understand why people get offended when other people tell them "Merry Christmas" because they aren't Christian/don't celebrate it/whatever. You act like we should be able to tell your beliefs or lack thereof just by looking at you. I don't get upset at people who tell me "Happy Holidays" because I know that they can't tell that I'm a Christian just by looking at me. It's not like every person who wishes you "Merry Christmas" is trying to convert you. They're just trying to be nice and you don't have to bite their head off because it's not in your belief system. Again, how are they supposed to know just by looking at you?

One of my favorite responses to this whole debate comes from Brad Stine...
