I still do not discount it entirely. Has to be something behind it.

There are 1,000+ mythological creatures in ancient stories. You know what's true? People like to make up stories. True then. True now.

Let's look at some of the odd creatures that have actually existed before we judge...

Because there always is some kind of inspiration. I like to know the entire story. I always despised starting a series in the middle :/

Do you feel the same way about all works of fiction?

A Nineteenth Centurey French explorer of Indochina stumbled upon "the middle of the story" when he discovered the great temple complex of Ankor Watt, buried in the Cambodian jungle.

When he asked the local Khmer peasants who built this fabulous city that he just discovered they would all just shrug and say "it built itsself", or "it was built by race of giants".

But modern science discovered later that it was not built by any "race of giants", but by the ancestors of the local Cambodian peasants themselves in the Twelfth Centurey during a great Cambodian empire. The "beginning of the story" was ordinary humans who somehow managed to build great archetecture. My suspicion is that with giants that is how the story always starts: with ordinary humans doing extraordinary things-ordinary humans who later get forgotten, or distorted in memory.

All was done by giant highly intelligent reptiles.

In 10 pages I assume the nephilim have been mentioned but i'll go ahead just in case.

There's a biblical story which relates how celestial beings (presumably angels) mated with earth women and produced giants who were renowned for their prowess in various fields. Its a fascinating story and I think that the book of Enoch actually says that this is the point where humanity discovered various occult practises and started using narcotic substances. I really think that its a symbolic account along the same lines as the edenic account. In both stories humanity gains knowledge which ultimately proves destructive due to humanity's naivety and inexperience.

Some people wonder if those beings called angels were actually extra terrestrial species that found a way to impregnate earth women creating a Tribe Called Nephilim.

Perhaps but its probably a myth really. Ive always entertained this notion that all the great geniuses come from the same bloodline Its just me toying with plot ideas for stories but it does tie in nicely with the idea of the nephilim

That makes more sense than the suggestion made by one WP'er: that ancient people were visited by angels and mistook the angels for astronauts! Ancient people had no concept of astronauts- so mistaking astronauts for angels is more likely than the opposite. Not that Im saying that happened either. Just its the less unlikely of the two.

Or maybe extraterrestrials mated with angels to form a race of super intelligent giant arthropods, who built huge walls to protect their human slaves!

..of course I'm talking about... crab people.

Giant crabs?Well that explains why they don't exist anymore.Once humans found out how delicious a crab leg and melted garlic butter is,the crabs were doomed.
