The original poster asked the question "why are we still having this silly debate over whether or not the Moon is made of Green Cheese, and is inhabited by Easter bunnies".
Abgal is simply pointing out the obvious: that there is no "debate" among scientists on that subject. The question was settled centuries ago that the moon is made of rock and is not inhabited by easter bunnies. Certain vested interests keep the green cheese theory of lunar composistion in the pubic eye, but the 'debate' ended long ago.

Except that evolution is not an opinion, it is a fact. You are, of course, free to believe in creation rather than evolution just like you are free to believe that the Earth is flat or that the moon is made of green cheese.

Look at it this way: There are people that go about looking for things to upset them. They call it something else, of course, but the end result is being upset and they continue to do it.
Take this forum as an example. Someone starts a thread to discuss a controversial subject knowing that it will draw comments from both sides. The side opposite their view replies and they fly off the handle. What they're doing is called flame baiting by definition but in reality it’s a cry for the abuse that they need to get through the day.
They look for it and in some cases I provide it so I am in fact I'm doing them a great service.
If there were no people like me to provide them with their daily upsetting then they would soon become bored, withdrawn, and depressed which could end up in suicide.
I am saving lives.

I did have pneumonia once. I felt like I was going to croak but I got over it without anyone's help just for the satisfaction of knowing I did it all by myself.

I had a pneumonia some years ago that went undetected for months. Now my left lung is severely scarred and I have a diminished breathing capacity. I wish I had seen a doctor about this early on, but there is nothing to be done about it now. One lives and learns
Those who refuse to learn often don't live quite as long as others. There must be a reason that people with a higher education have an increased life expectancy.
Anyway, good luck with that approach in the future
