As far as I'm concerned, the governor simply represents the will of the people, so if the citizens want that flag to fly, that's the position she should take; I take her comments on it not costing them business as just that, pointing out that the policy isn't costing the state any money, as some opponents of flying like to claim.

I have to imagine that most black South Carolinians don't like the Confederate flag, and I would think it a mistake to assume that all white southerners would either (considering that many of their ancestors had fought against the Confederacy, and/or espouse different political stances today). So I have to question just how many people in that state her will is representing in regard to that flag.

So, your view is that the governor, an Indian American, is flying the Confederate flag against the will of her constituents why?

Here are some very old number about the issue nationally, http://www.gallup.com/poll/2926/america ... -flag.aspx, which show that national support for flying that flag at 46% against and 44% for, but I imagine the numbers are much different in the south.

If Nikki Haley were a democrat drawing criticism from the right they would be labeled racists and misogynists by the left.

Would some moderator please put an end to the people who post responses that fill the page with quotations? It is very annoying. There is no need to dissect each argument point by point. It is really not that difficult to just formulate a concise response. I know I have seen a moderator address this issue before, but the offenders, thinking themselves above the rules and terms of WP, just refuse to comply. What they want to do is drown out the truth because they have no real response to truth and facts other than to try to shout over everyone who disagrees with them. And anyone who disagrees with them who uses the same tactics will be threatened with banishment by the moderators who side with above mentioned members members instead of remaining impartial.

thank you :hail: it would surely be nice if more people were willing to discuss gov. nikki.

I fear this has broken down into such a personal slugfest that the governor has been forgotten.

Yes, if I may butt in a bit, would you mind, dear folks, to direct your attentions to the subject of this thread?

Yes.

Also, people will be allowed to rebut posts point by point, as there is nothing wrong with it and it is an effective debating technique.

Khaoz, if you don't like what the conservatives are saying, try arguing against what they're saying instead of attacking their posting style.

The only way Nikki Haley would be a Democrat supporting the Confederate flag would be if she was back in Jim Crow days. And considering the color of her skin, it would be highly unlikely that she could be voted into any South Carolina office back then, let alone vote

I didn't say all her constituents were against the Confederate flag by any means, but the opposition to it almost certainly is more than a small minority.

in light of that history, I don't get how she can be so undisturbed about the whole thing. it is like whistling past the graveyard of past [and present] injustices. and that horrible photo of the black fella with the confederate flag, just how is that materially different in philosophy and attitude, from an Israeli holding a Nazi flag? the lack of comprehension and the lack of widespread revulsion is EERIE to me and makes me think I'm in a twilight zone episode or a nightmare.

She probably looks at that picture every night when she goes to bed, in order to justify her actions to herself.

And? Like I said, her job as governor is to represent her constituents, and if it's a minority of them who object to the flag, why do they get to overrule the majority who approve?

I said nothing about any democrat defending the Confederate flag or the Jim Crow era. If she were a democrat, criticism of her from the right on any matter would bring an accusation of racism and misogyny.

PS: You're deliberate obtuseness is evidence that you're finally realising that you don't have a leg to stand on.

I was bringing up Jim Crow days to demonstrate that that would have been the only time a Democrat would have supported the Confederate flag.
And as that's obvious, I'm clearly not the one who's being obtuse.

Intentionally missing the point in hopes of drawing attention away from the fact that the left loves to accuse the right of racism whenever the right criticizes a person of color base on issues not race related is being deliberately obtuse.

What? When is the right criticizing anyone of color for any issue in this topic?
