Technically it is subverting science. The for profit medication industry (especially psychoactive medication) produces a brain drain and draws away from serious work such as developing a vaccine for AIDS or a cure for cancer....that's left to po-dunk charities and very poorly run micrometer-stepping government run research programs (because there isn't enough money to go for the money shot, the little money that is allocated must be put into small steps that are guaranteed to produce positive results so as to keep getting funding).

There is money in curing cancer. It affects all income levels so people would be willing to pay for a cure.

Wouldn't AIDS technically be in the same category? I mean that isn't especially something effected by income either.

/found a random study that says that low income people are more likely to get brain cancer than high income people.
//not citing it because I'm not familiar with the source

Who are you to declare who and what the 'vast majority' of the 'nation [sic] values' are? You are not really, becoming any more different than the government here in Singapore that will shoot down movements and bills to introduce equal treatment of homosexuals by citing the "Asian values" that the supposed majority of the people here value. China has been out of the empire business for a few centuries and I suppose it is time they had their crack at it again. The population is marvelously industrious, inventive and probably no more brutal than anybody else who has plunged into the silly business of trying to make humans behave vaguely rationally. No doubt they will also have their major failures.

I'll say. American business interests are softening on the Canadian oil sands projects, but China just dumped 1.3 billion Dollars in.

There are interesting reports from Scandinavian scientists that indicate that oil may not be the result of organic degeneration but might be produces inorganically from chemicals deep within the mantle. If that is true there may be sources of oil much deeper that have not yet been tapped and the proposed end of oil may not be true.

I have heard that too Sand. It could also be that both generators are in existence.

What I find amusing is how some of these people like telling people from other countries they are backwards and pinko.

These people are only not 'pinko' because they are championship cherry pickers. You heard right. Privatise the police force and fire service then. Public water supply!?! Unheard of in UK. f**k municipal services you can do with out. So be it. Public militia
? Damn you commy bastards!

The fact of the matter is the insurance companies have had their chance and they failed to deliver. There is no incentive for them to deal with illness that is not profitable and help the needy.

I'm not a huge fan of Greenspan, but he was right when he finally realised that business cannot be trusted to act responsibly and regulate themselves. It is surprising it took him 60 years to come to this conclusion. People are driven be greed and fear, pure and simple.

These protesters, besides not really knowing what is they are protesting about (merely protesting on the back of McCarthy era remnant propaganda), are just doing what comes naturally to anyone, blowing their own trumpet. If they did it a bit more intelligently I might respect them. No doubt they are s**t scared.

I'm not sure how the "China" tangent managed to get in here when I mentioned Singapore. I know that fifty states are really difficult to remember in Geography class, good sir, but if a foreigner like I is capable of remembering where and what all the fifty states are, so can you.

Next empire. It's something you wouldn't understand being from Singapore.

Wonderful! Let's play the Amazing Glenn Beck Paranoia Game.

The United States invades multiple nations over the decades, sets up military bases everywhere and call it liberation.

A different nation pours money into other nations and it becomes an empire! Sir, I'd like you to honestly, define what you think an 'empire' is. 'Empire' is the occupation of territory via coercion. Do you reckon that investment from a nation that still respects a leader who said 'Power comes from the barrel of the gun' equates to aspirations of empire when they're still, busily trying to resolve their issues at home?

http://press.princeton.edu/titles/8611.html

Most people who're interested in China in this day and age, would've already read and known of this book. I suggest that you do the very same.

I'm very much aware of what's going on in, and with China, Mr Supremely Enlightened American sir. Or shall I say 'Suh' while you call me 'boy', as you would've liked it 300 years ago? ;) I know Joe Wilson would've enjoyed it for certain.

But you obviously dont give a s**t about the State of Palestine that should have been created instead the creation of Israel, and the damage that this created

There is no State of Palestine. There is no Palestinian Nation. It was made up for propaganda purposes in 1964. Before Israel was a State the area existed under the British Mandate and before that under the Ottoman Turkish Empire.

If a bunch of gangsters want to declare themselves a State, there will be war, and the war will determine the outcome.
