The world will not end on 12-21-2012, at least not according to the Maya, who knew about as much about our planet's future demise as Gordon-Michael Scallion, St. Malachy, Edgar Cayce, Zecharia Sitchin,or Nostradamus, namely, nothing. The Maya had zero, zilch, nada, mix bá'al to say about the hoax planet Nibiru or the end of the world.
... One of the important discoveries from these ruins is that the Maya had several calendars. One is known as the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days...
http://www.skepdic.com/maya.htmlHey - doesn't that sinister resetting just reek of Y2K paranoia?
people love to be paranoid, there is a whole subset of folks that go to horror films to have the **** scared out of them, and some people like to think the boogeyman is going to grab their leg from under the bed. It doesn't help to have various religions predicting some horrible catastrophe. I remember when they realized that the Mayan hieroglyphics were cyclic and that they had a whole new set planned for 1,872,000 days after 2012.
but then that wouldn't be as much fun for the paranoid, now would it?
