Moral luck would imply some moral absolute.

There is no such absolute moral, there cannot be. Because there is no absolute with the authority to define it and enforce it upon others.
There are those that try, but none that can do so.
Laws are not morals, they are only attempts to place the morals of the power structure upon the will of the subservients.

Morality can only be discussed when a perspective is set. It is relative, just like everything else in this universe. It is a concept which we created, and thus has to be defined relative to the observer and the observed.
So I can view A as less moral than me, and A can view me as less moral than they.
Both, due to the relativity of the argument, are correct in their assertions.

So, regarding moral luck... The only luck I can see connected to morality would whether many or few share your view of morality. If you have a morality that differentiates from the common morality or the law's forced attempted morality then you are unlucky... Which there is no doubt that I fall into that category.
If you are a yes man, pansy-ass do as you're told butt-kissing weasel then well.. you're morally lucky... but devoid of a self.

Connecting this to the murder vs. attempted murder.
There are situations where attempting to murder someone and failing would be a sin... or close anyways (ergo less moral), than succeeding. Just ask your friendly neighbourhood islamic suicide bomber, he'll tell ya... He wan'ts his 72 virgins after all, if some of them infidels don't die like they're supposed to, he might be a few short when he gets there.
