Sorry I'm a Canadian, industry doesn't own our penal or justice systems here.... yet. Though with the 'Tang, there were some early experiments into it.... They haven't gone over well, thankfully.

I live in the town with the twin sister jail to the 'tang, and the conditions and it's efficacy are so much better in this one, I think one can call the experiment a failure.

Though to be honest, I really didn't see any social commentary in that video that sticks out as a statement on that.

It would effect a vast area of the US economy that relies on it though, such as roadwork and other things companies on the take with your corrupt government do with the labour they buy. The net effect there would be positive though, as it would lead to good paying, tax yielding jobs that would boost the economy. That would be a boom to tax revenues.

re: the discussion about the video using taxation on sales of weed as an argument for it.
I think this is included because you have to get politicians onside. If the gov't can see it as a viable way to bring in taxes without upsetting the population it increases the chance that someone in office might actually risk trying to spearhead a campaign to accomplish it. And it will help sway the non-users of the product, "if they tax that, then they won't have to tax this" or something like that.
