Attempts to bring about change politically are rarely successful. These changes follow cultural changes (usually brought about by media attention). Without the support of the people, a revolution - violent or not - will fail.
Many people talk about the American Revolution and how we won our freedom through war, but they rarely take into account the years of work bringing about cultural change. At the beginning of the American Revolution, very few people supported the revolutionaries, but by 1776, there was enough support in the colonies (as well as help from France) to bring down the greatest superpower. All this took years of publications, protests, and political maneuvers.
Revolutions are not won on the battlefield. They are won with a pen.
