I believe the world could end any time. Any incoming planet or asteroid would not care if it's a leap year or not. I do like some advance warning, though. So I can go to a good spot, put my telescope there and watch it coming. Wouldn't want to miss something as rare as that. :)

Since people have been "foreseeing" the end of the world for centuries, and giving anticipated dates, I don't think I can believe any of the hype.

While I am a Christian, I think the end of the world could coincide with when the Sun becomes a red giant, and loses a lot of its fuel. But this is several million years away.

Nah, I don't think anything out of the ordinary is going to happen, other than the crazy things people will do just because it's about to turn 2012. If anything else happens, it's all coincidence.

No, I don't believe in Wikipedia, but I posted the link anyhow.

What's to believe?! I'm not sure if you were actually referring to the phenomenon itself or commenting on what is popularly believed about the wiki, but it sure is ironic considering the topic!

the end of the world will either come as a thief in the night, or as a whimper long after any sentient beings can hear it. but either way i'd rather not think about it, because i have no powers to do anything about it one way or another.

It's pretty obvious that the world ended about the time Clinton came into office and we're all in Hell.

That is a physical and psychological impossibility. Reality is continuous since the time of the Big Bang. There is no Restart Button.

Sure, the world is gonna explode in 2012, when those evil mad scientists finally activate their little doomsday device, the Large Hadron Collider.

Actually, I think the man-made Big Bang will destroy the very fabric of reality. Those good for nothing scientists will doom the whole universe with their attempts at creating a pocket universe.

That, or 2012 is just bull poo poo.

Well, there's a small chance Sarah Palin will get elected in 2012!

On a serious note, the 2012 paranoia is beyond moronic. I am ashamed that people still think so simplistically in the 21st centrury.

I never mentioned a restart button. and I dont believe in the big bang theory. and there is a such thing as starting or creating something new out of something that already exists.

You are assuming the Big Bang means something from nothing. There are variants of the Big Bang hypothesis wherein the expansion from a singularity is an intermediate event in an eternal system. For example the Steinhardt-Turok ekpyoritic hypothesis. In their system the existence of colliding branes is eternal. No beginning, no end.
