These poll results are a bit disturbing. The majority of people ALWAYS disagree with him. Personaly, I'm about 50/50. the truth is often in the middle.
This poll along with several posts here, seem to incicate that many aspies hold extreme leftist views. Is this due to how asperger's affects the brain?? Or is it due to the demographics of those who post here?? Or something else??
I don't know if we all hold extreme leftist views, since I've read posts from a few that are extremely right. I suspect the majority, however, may be more leftist than the mainstream population. I certainly see a pattern, regardless, of aspies holding views that are not generally accepted well by the mainstream.
I think that most NTs who engage in politics don't really think too deeply about things and are impressed by what they read. I think we may actually do more research into the matter than most NTs do. I get the impression that most aspies don't like to be proven wrong. I do believe, however, that some aspies will cater to a particular source over all others and get their info from that source. I tend to believe that some aspies may cling to certain political preferences, because it helps provide structure. Overall, though, I think that most aspies that are interested in political viewpoints tend to do quite a bit of research. For those that don't do as much research, I suspect their political aspirations may resemble those of NTs. They feel they should hold a view, so they hold a view of which best seems to fit them or their family or whatever.
I think the way AS affects the brain may push an aspie to have a hardline view of something, if not even obsessive. This can occur with politics, I suppose. What an aspie may support probably is not coming from neurology, but rather from the conditions in which they were brought up.
Some leftist groups tend to express a tolerance of differences, and that may be why some aspies cater to the left. Some AS types may identify with the kind of bullying tactics of the Republican party, and associate them with some of what happened with bullies at school. I think there's lots of factors involved.
