I'm not attacking Machine1 or the other dude, the only ones I'm attacking are mainly narrow-minded Christian conservative types, Bushies, and overly preachy traditionalists. I'm not against religion, I'm against the misuse of religion. All the main religions pretty much carry the same message, brotherly love for all humanity... But what is happening, particularly with Islam and Christianity, is theyr being turned into vessels for hatred and intolerance.
There is a reason for seperation of church and state... We live in a multi-cultural nation, you can't make lets say, a jew follow christian laws, or a muslim, or an atheist... And by using religion as a political tool, it opens the gates to religious persecution of minorities.

I'm an atheist myself. I know I can not change the world I just want to be happy.
I was passionate about political things in the past but I do not care much at all anymore. I think if you focus on yourself and let the world crash and burn you will be
happier to. :)

What happens if they declare marshall law? You know this is what theyr gunning for, I mean the pieces are all in place. Elimination of seperation of church and state, Patriot Act.... Bush has been in power for a while, and has succeeded in nothing but raising gas prices, failing to raise minimum wage... He's attacking lower and middle class as well.
When he had just STOLEN office, before 9/11, one of the 1st things he did was give illegal aliens a green card to sit right where they were, and then when it took a chunk out of social security.... He's militarized the border now, this isn't **really** so much to keep illegals out as it is to keep us in. He's passed a major tax cut which only makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
Just look at his cabinet, Carl Rove, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Tom Delay, Oliver North, these are names that formerly belonged to the Christian Coalition, a radical christian activist group. They've all publicly been branded with saying extremely intolerant things of other religions and even going as far as to burn a koran, claiming muslims are "a culture of evil"... Radical muslims are doing the same thing in the middle east.
Yet, religion is just a tool. The Bush and BinLaden families go waaayyyyy back in the oil industry that has made them both million-aires. I sincerely believe Bush was working with BinLaden in setting 9/11 up. It did several things to get the ball rolling for a theocratic agenda. This is fastly becoming like George Orwell's 1984.

...did you just claim that Fallwell, Robertson and North are on Bush's cabinet?

I wouldn't be so annoyed if you had ANYTHING to back up your claims of a theocracy, but you don't. You're just spewing smoke into the air.

You know nothing of politics, and you don't know what the Christian Coalition is.

If you're as delusional as your posts make you sound, I think the last thing you need to do is lock yourself in a room away from the world. You could start by taking off the tin foil hat and getting acquainted with reality. There's professionals out there who are willing to help.

From what I hear about the US, the North is very progressive and open-minded, and the South is stuck in the past.

Also, the South lost the 1861 civil war to the North. They probably still feel a bit bitter. Guess what the war was about? Slavery!! The northern liberally-minded government wanted it gone, and the South refused - prefering to stick to their backward traditions, so the North invaded and the Rednecks got their arses kicked. That is just about the best bit of American history in my opinion.

Well it was a little more complex than that. The Union (North) went to war with
the South because the South left the Union. Talk of freeing the slaves came after
the war started. Yes the Rednecks(I guess you mean me) lost. Very few white
people who faught and died on both sides were fighting for or against slavery. It
was about doing your duty for your land. The kill ratio was 2 Northern troops per 1
Southern troop granted defender has a big advantage but the point is the southern
soldiers who died were giving it their all and they were not fighting for slavery.
And as you know England was on the South side so I guess that make you a
Rednecks friend :) The cotton after all was going to the factories in England.
I think its fair to say the South is less liberal than the North. But that does not
make the people bad. Its no harder to live in a small town in the north or south
say if your gay or black. Same if you compare big cities. If you compare
New York City to a small town in North Carolina sure it will be a big difference.
I'm sure the same can be said if you compare London to a small town in
England. The South is "stuck in the past" because of economics. The money we
have today was from investment made in the past. Farming in a post slavery,
war destroyed econmey is not a cash cow. In the same way that blacks today
have economic problem as a direct result of slavery. Poor whites (redneck)
have problem (granted not near as bad).

This is the simplistic answer that everybody knows. It's true, but it doesn't go far enough. The American Civil War (what a contradiction in terms) was about states' rights and the role of the federal government. Don't get me wrong, I don't support slavery, and without federal intervention, many of the civil rights gains of the mid-20th century would not have been possible. What I object to is education systems that boil things down to simple black & white, right & wrong answers. Higher education is supposed to teach people to think. Centralized vs. local control is still a vibrant issue all over the world. And as that great philosopher George Carlin said, "I consider the South to be just another minority that got screwed by the federal government!"
