The lefty/islamic extremism love is an old phenomenal thing in my country, but it's something new for you.
For instance, during the civil war here, the Lebanese leftist movements were allies with the PLO and with the Syria's Baath (in another phase) and Islamic movements against the Lebanese Christians whom they support very rightist movements.
Today, Hezbollah's allies in Lebanon are leftist movements: Communists, socialists, pan-arab socialist, mourabitoun , SSNP...except the Democratic left, the only lefty movement sided with the 14March coalition (which is very rightist in concept).
Why is that?
My theory is because they share hatred against the same side: The west, capitalism and its allies.
And both share the lack of "patriotism": Extremist muslims view their country as artificial and it should be a part of a huge Islamic empire. Leftists on the other hand do like the idea of being a part of a big anti-US great nation (ie. The arab nation or Greater Syria, USSR).
Leftists in my country where never been patriots and probably they will never be, they've always supported the Palestinian cause, the Arab-Israel cause, the Syrian Baath's at the expense of our stability and our economy, the good of Lebanon meant little to them.
I like the leftists' calls for liberalism and other economical issues (I am atheist).
but I don't like their stand when it comes to politics and foreign policies.
Leftists and extremist Muslims' opinions always went side by side.
I don't know about the left in the US, but here they tend to be very double-faced in their public 'protests':
-They both hailed for Saddam and said death to US.
-They both hailed for the Egyptian people and said down to Mubarak.
-They both hailed for the NATO and said death to Gaddafi.
-And now they're both (leftists and Hezbollah and even minor Sunni extremist movements) are hailing for Assad.
The f**k?! You are either anti-dictatorship or not! You can't be selective like that!! But helas, leftists here are that selective.

Some sections of the left in the UK have supported the Palestinian cause for quite a few decades. Left-wing support for Islamic extremism per se, is relatively new and goes back to about the same time as 9/11.
What used to be the case here is that you had left wing supporters of the PLO but also left wing Zionists. We even have a group called Labour Friends of Israel. A lot of the Ashkenazim from the East End of London were socialists. Until the US got heavily involved in Israel and politics in the Middle East, people were paranoid about Judaism = International Socialism (Hitler thought they were the same thing). It's true that Jews were involved in many of the early socialist movements in Europe.
In the past, whether you supported the PLO or were a Zionist was down to your own conscience rather than your politics. Most non-Jewish right wing people didn't have an opinion on Israel and the left wing were divided on the issue.
Now all of that is changed because, as you said, Israel/the US/capitalism have become common 'enemies' of the left and Islamic extremists.
I honestly kept out of the whole thing and had no opinion on Israeli politics, though I did study it at school. I was slightly a supporter of the Palestinian cause, like most left wing people. The more Islamic antisemitism I see though, the more it pushes me the other way.

The term "Islamic antisemitism" isn't valid since Islam is a semitic religion, founded by a Semitic person, and great portion of the Muslims are arabs(Semites too), Jews aren't the only Semitic people out there. You can call it Islamic anti-zionism or Islamic anti-Judaism but Islamic antisemitism doesn't make much sense.

The term makes no etymological sense, yes.
People say antisemitism when they mean anti-Judaism and that is very common usage. I was simply being lazy with language (AS-shock, there) and not meaning to imply that Jews are the only Semitic people.

It leads one almost to a philo-Semitic Wilders type position, i.e. "extremist Islam is out to get us, and the first step in that is Israel. Israel is the last line of defence for us, and the last non-Muslim state in the Middle East."
The reason why I say this is that synagogues have been trashed by extremist Muslims here. Sometimes it can be neo-Nazis or other thugs but often it is Islamist nutters. So it can be seen as an extension of anti-semitism.
I know that both sides are pretty awful in Israel, and it's dangerous to support one side or the other. But we're worried for our own survival here, with multiculturalist lefties standing side-by-side with extremist Muslims. When they are frequently silent (or even covertly encourage - I'm looking at you, Ilmar Reepalu) attacks on Jewish businesses and places of worship, one starts to worry.

I'm not really worried for my own survival.
As lame as it sounds, I think before I got involved with a Jewish man (however non-religious), I had no idea what it would be like to have people wanting to kill you just because of what tribe your Mum's ancestors happened to come from. Or, if you like, what some descendants of that tribe are doing in the Middle East (which I know is often very wrong, and very bad press for Israel in general).
I don't think most goyim have mustered enough empathy to imagine how they would feel if it was their businesses, places of worship and cemeteries being vandalised. There's a general apathy toward anti-Jewish discrimination because people think, 'oh the Jews are so rich and powerful, they don't need the same level of protection from discrimination that other humans do'. So I can understand them wanting their own state and being annoyed when people question its right to exist. It would be what I would want.
