It seems that Christians and Ancient Japanese agree, demons exist. But what is a demon anyway?

In Christianity, a fallen angel. In Job, the devil, ha-satan, meaning the false accuser, demands that God test Job and that if he lost everything that he'd curse God. Demons are much like people when they feel that they have anonymity.

If we're going by the New Testament, a demon is a fallen angel who works either on its own or with Satan, the original demon. Their activities include possessing people and animals.

When I was a child I passed by a dark, for some reason I felt like there was someone there, when I looked in I froze. The most I can describe was that was like a shadow, not something on a surface, but a black creature that was there, but at the same time not physically there, the only defining trait I could recognise was, but I felt a fear beyond anything. I would imagine that would be what a demon, but the fact is no one would belive me, it sounds like it was just my imagination.

Interestinglythe event caused me so much a fear of re-living it, that I in a sense embraced the dark, and even my habit of wearing black clothes.

I don't disbelieve the possibility of entities existing on another dimensional wavelength or something.
But I'm not a physicist..

A demon is an invisible, wicked, spirit creature having superhuman powers. The common Greek word for demon (dai′mon) occurs only once in the Christian Greek Scriptures, in Matthew 8:31; elsewhere the word dai·mo′ni·on appears. Pneu′ma, the Greek word for “spirit,” at times is applied to wicked spirits, or demons. (Matthew 8:16) It also occurs qualified by terms such as “wicked,” “unclean,” “speechless,” and “deaf.”—Luke 7:21; Matthew 10:1; Mark 9:17, 25

The demons as such were not created by God. The first to make himself one was Satan the Devil, who became the ruler of other angelic sons of God who also made themselves demons. (Matthew 12:24, 26)

How did the angels become demons? In Noah’s day disobedient angels materialized, married women, fathered a hybrid generation known as Nephilim (these were powerful giants with demi-god like strength), and then dematerialized when the Flood came. (Genesis 6:1-4) However, upon returning to the spirit realm, they did not regain their lofty original position, for Jude 6 says: “The angels that did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place he has reserved with eternal bonds under dense darkness for the judgment of the great day.” (1 Peter 3:19, 20) It was unnatural for angels to have sexual relations with humans. As a result Jehovah banished these rebellious angels to a condition of dense spiritual darkness that they must now confine their operations. (2 Peter 2:4)

Jehovah took away their ability to materialize as humans, but even in their "handicapped" position demons still have great power and influence over the minds and lives of humans. They even have the ability to enter into and possess humans and animals. The facts show that they can also use inanimate things such as houses ("hauntings"), fetishes, and charms. — Matthew 12:43-45; Luke 8:27-33

The primary purpose of all such demonic activity is to turn people against Jehovah and the pure worship of God. As a result Jehovah’s law, therefore, strictly forbade demonism in any form. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12) However, wayward Israel astray so far as that they sacrificed their sons and daughters to the demons. (Psalm 106:37; Deuteronomy 32:17; 2 Chronicles 11:15)

When Jesus was on earth demon influence was very prevalent, and some of his greatest miracles consisted of expelling wicked spirits from victimized persons. (Matthew 8:31, 32; 9:33, 34; Mark 1:39; 7:26-30; Luke 8:2; 13:32) Jesus gave this same power to his 12 apostles and to the 70 that he sent out, so that in the name of Jesus they too could cast out the demons. — Matthew 10:8; Mark 3:14, 15; 6:13; Luke 9:1; 10:17.

Today demons influence human affairs. It is still true that “the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons.” (1 Corinthians 10:20) In the last book of the Bible, the “revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place,” prophetic warning is given concerning accelerated demon activity on the earth. (Revelation 1:1)

It begins with “Down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels [demons] were hurled down with him. On this account . . . woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time.” (Revelation 12:9, 12) One of the reasons why pornography and sexuality is so prevalent in today's society is that when the demons where forced to dematerialize they could no longer satiate their sexual appetites in physical form. When they and Satan were confined to earth awaiting their judgement (Luke 4:34; Revelation 20:1-3) they could now concentrate all their attention on earth. You may have heard the expression "I live my life through someone else." This is what demons do. They inflict in the minds of many their endless appetite for sex.

Regarding false religion it states that unclean expressions “are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and perform signs, and they go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.” — Revelation 16:13, 14.

Christians must, therefore, put up a hard fight against these unseen wicked spirits.

1. James, in arguing that belief alone is not sufficient, says: “You believe there is one God, do you? You are doing quite well. And yet the demons believe and shudder.” (James 2:19)
2. “In later periods of time,” warned Paul, “some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons.” (1 Titus 4:1)
3. One cannot eat of Jehovah’s table and at the same time feed from the table of demons. (1 Corinthians 10:21)
4. "Put on the complete suit of armor from God that YOU may be able to stand firm against the machinations of the Devil; because we have a wrestling, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:11-12)

The faithful, therefore, must put up a hard fight against the Devil and his demons. As one of Jehovah's Witness I can tell you that that daily fight is hard, but it is "the fine fight of the faith" (1 Timothy 6:12)

The second "yes" was amusing.

"What is a Demon?"

Hmmm.. yeah. I'll have to think about what I learned before describing. I find this a tad complicated at the moment.

Here is what I can give you. This is going to look like total, absolute bull to a logical thinking person.

Demons are invisible creatures who exist in different sorts of forms. They were once angels, but got sick of always worshiping God all the time. The Angels noticed this, and a huge fight broke out between the angels and demons. God didn’t like this, so he booted the demons to planet earth, where they roamed around, causing bad luck, murder, or anything negative people feel like applying them to.

In their ghost trap realm, somewhere between physical earth and in ghost life a few of them became orange, others became shadows, etc. Their newest forms becoming their very nature, which God condemned and bound to destruction. Yep, for having what existence they do. “Wow. God sure takes his time!” ‘Cough’ God told one of them to harass job, and they gladly did. Apparently, not all of them hate God, they just don’t want to put every inch of their existence into him. They prefer people over animals, because it’s fun frightening the @#$% out of verbal, emotional humanoids. Others simply peep into your privacy. They know that someday God will completely destroy them for being what they are, but he is clearly not in a hurry to do so. They know a time that has been set for it.

They hate exorcisms, because it reminds them of that fight they lost with the angels. You know endlessly sore losers. It also reminds the demon that they get to take the blame for anything negative, even if they didn’t have a part in it. For some reason, they go right back into another person, and go through the same process they don’t like so much, so their memory is inferior, and they don't seem to realize it. They hate a humanoid animal placing themselves in authority over them to. They want to feel like powerful Gods and be loved. After cursing or blessing you, the demon has to go through subtle, unobvious effort to make it come to pass, which you likely won’t thank it for giving you.

That's about all I learned on demons. :?
