You have the freedom to choose whether or not if you want to have a gun in self-defense. Who are you to decide what a person should choose to do, how the person should choose to protect himself?

I'm pretty fed up with the culture myself, especially with the fat cats in Washington inflating the money supply, imposing new violations of the constitution, and waging war all over the world.

That's why I own guns. I don't want to have to depend on the fat cats in Washington, or anybody in the government, to protect me. I'll turn a very suspicious eye once they start trying to round up the guns.

i get so angry when this is quoted - sorry, cornince, not at you - but at the number of times this completely and utterly duplictous, lying, deceitful, IMMORAL, fallacy is dragged out and paraded as a noble, constitutional right. what a load of crap! and how illogical - where's the freedom is having to HAVE a gun to protect yourself? and, while i'm at it, it's no good making guns illegal either - that just means the only guns are in the hands of criminals.

sort out the disease, not the symptoms. i'm not a bleeding heart liberal. i'm just fed up with the culture of fear that means everyone's dragged down with the fat cats, and have to play by their rules, in their game, in order to protect their power and monetary interests. i refuse to play by those rules. and i don't accept excuses of "i didn't know". the world is everyone's responsibility

Gun control aside, I have to wonder why it is that the U.S. has a muder rate that is so significantly higher than any other developed nation. This seems to apply to both developed nations with strict and lax gun control. I mean, do we have a culture that condones murder or something?

Have you seen 'Bowling for Columbine'? That is exactly what the documentary is about. It does seem that America is obsessed with killing people. Scary. The film is anti-gun for the most part, but they do mention that Canada has a higher gun-to-people ratio than the United States, and their gun deaths are at a much lower rate.

In Australia most of the crimes tend to be theft and vandilism. So the country founded by convicts murders less people, but the country founded by religious zealots murders more people!

Fun Fact: According to my Social Studies teacher, the first man who came up with the idea of gun control was a man by the name of Adolph Hitler. Can anyone guess why he wanted to make gun ownership illegal?

:? :x

Guns make killing easier and more impersonal.

Me too. This probably explains the lower murder rate in Europe - most assaults and disputes tend not to be fatal due to the fact that most people don't have a gun at home. Arguably it takes a lot more personal anger to physically stab, strangle or beat a person to death than to take out a gun and shoot them.

I don't have anything to say about guns, but someone mentioned Columbine. Something like that ALMOST happened at a highschool where I live. Someone who goes there was planning to blow it up, but luckily the police found out before it happened.

Didn't the movie Bowling for Columbine mention the lower murder rate in Canada, despite there being about the same guns/person ratio? Perhaps there's something else involved.

That is exactly what I said in my post, cornice. Actually, Canada has a higher gun/person ratio.

I still don't think that makes gun okay to have, though.

The point with home defense is that the law considers your home the place of last retreat, your castle. Most people consider their homes this. Somebody has broken into your home, and you are going to defend it and your life.

Exactly, and he also REFUSES to own a gun.
