I also voted for the Democrats.

Yeah, i voted all democratic to defeat bush and to end the war.

The democrats got us into this war too. The war certainly isnt going to end now. Even if we did leave, the violence in Iraq wouldnt end.

And you thinks the violence is ending with us there?

I take the republican view on the war in one respect - we ****ed up their country and now we have to fix it but I think if we were really after dangerous nations we'd invading Saudi Arabia and Iran.

A lot of republicans agree with that. We think that even if war was the right thing, this current war was mishandled from the getgo and may be beyond repair. But even if it's not, we need some changes, and I was hoping that this election would clue Bush in that 'stay the course' is not valid anymore.

Instead, it looks like he's going to drift left and kowtow to the liberals, which is a disastrous result, the worst possible for all involved.

Personally, I hope that the war is handled sensibly and with regard for making Iraq work rather than just ending it and leaving it a festering pit. Considering that a major part of the democrat platform was leaving Iraq I have some questions about whether or not they will employ sensible strategy.

The only person who can keep the peace in Iran is Saddam or someone just like him. The need someone strong enough to keep the different ethnic and religious factions from killing each other. The ppl in that country don't care about having a democracy they would rather have a mullah or an ayatollah.

I don't see Bush kow towing to the Democrats. Rumsfield was a sacrificial goat.
It may look like he will be co operating, but he still has Cheney pulling his strings and has Rice's shoulder.
I think the environment will still suffer, but not without a fight.
I think the middle class is still shrinking and the rich will get richer.
Because of the House and Senate, however, I hope the Republicans finally have to answer for their actions.
I wish someone in government would get a hint after how this election went.....look how a lot of people voted and the reaction of some Republicans against their own Party.

Governents all around the world who supported the Iraq war will all come to realize when it comes to the election time that any such support is political poison.

I just did a google search to prove my point.

First I typed in "bring our troops home" I got 346,000 hits
Then I typed in "keep our troops there" I got a modest 562 hits
and finally I typed in "don't bring our troops home" the result was a paltry 19 hits.

And 1.4 Million when I googoled "Support Our Troops" -bring -them -home

Your point being?

And can be used in so many different contexts like just one the examples this kind I googled up on the first page:
Quote:
But for myself, I think that perhaps a different approach might work better, and so if war does come, I intend to reply to the demand to support our troops by saying that yes, I too “support our troops.

I will reply that I support our troops not having to kill people in Iraq.

I support our troops not being ordered to assault defenseless populations, towns, farms, and the infrastructural sinews of life that sustain a whole country’s citizenry.

I support our troops not having to carry out orders from Commander in Chief George Bush and then having to live the rest of their lives wondering why they obeyed such a barbaric buffoon rather than resisting his illegitimate, immoral authority.

I find that since the final results of the elections came in, a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Now we can investigate the son-of-a-bitch.

Now we can block any further right-wing Supreme Court nominations.

Now we can end Bush's policy of borrowing hundreds of billions of dollars every year from China and Japan and then giving that money to the wealthiest Americans.

Now we can stop Bush from taking away our civil rights.

:D

It's funny - the glee I'm hearing from the left makes my blood boil. But at the same time, as I said in the other topic, I wanted the Democrats to gain seats.

Now let us just pray that they actually attempt to change things instead of bogging down the system with the pointless partisan attacks that lost them the 2004 election.

Pointless partisan attacks? I don't think it was very pointless, and i also do not think it was responsible for them loosing the election. They may not have been too popular with short-sighted christians who fail to recognize the beliefs of others as valid.
But when the republican party is backing such things as ban on gay marriage, ban on stem cell research, promoting the 10 commandments being placed on court grounds, trying to make "under god" mandatory in our pledge of allegiance, sending our tax dollars to rebuilding churches, even anti-abortion (which generally I agree with, but not for religious reasons) I'm sorry but there is a reason why church and state need to remain seperate. There is no law that states everyone has to believe in the same religion, and non-christians are not guests living in a christian nation, and we do not deserve to be subjugated to someone else's beliefs. There isn't a drop more proof that christianity is right than buddhism, or hinduism, or judaism, or islam, or paganism. And they are all equally as much an american tradition as christianity. Deal with it. The 1st ammendment of the constitution of the united states grants every man the freedom of religion (or lack thereof). This whole presumption that if someone doesn't believe in jesus theyr attacking him, or attacking the religion, this is preposterous. It's nazi as hell, the assailants are merely trying to paint themselves as the victims.
I have friends who are christian, but they understand why religion should not be pushed into law or politics, they don't act like theyr superior because of their religion. It's the extremists who are giving christianity a bad name. I see them being like the American taliban (ideologically).
