Here is some Otto Dix, noted for his ruthless and harshly realistic depictions of Weimar society and the brutality of war.

Otto Dix had been a German soldier during World War I, and made some brilliant social commentaries through his art. Needless to say, the Nazis didn't care much for his work when they took over (preferring Germans, war, guns, and the Nazi government depicted in heroic-looking ways). They labeled him a "degenerate artist", sacked him from his post as an art teacher at the Dresden Academy, and forced him to promise to paint only inoffensive landscapes.

Our "Conservatives" also prefer America and "Conservatives" to be depicted in heroic, realistic ways (like Jon McNaughton's work), and "Liberals" depicted as evil (but with realistic appearances--nothing out of kilter--that could have easily been a photograph of President Obama posing stiffly while burning the constitution). Our "Conservatives" also want guns and warfare to be depicted in a positive light. Exactly as the Nazis did.

Otto Dix also has some fascinating nudes--those who are not squeemish about breasts may look them up yourselves.

There is a large difference between American conservatives and totalitarian regimes.
I actually like art from totalitarian regimes, as it makes it easier to imagine why people fell for those ideas.

Apparently, Hitler spent a lot of time trying new poses to appear dominant.

North Korea's coat of arms depicts exactly what's missing in society; food and electricity.
In one Soviet painting depicting Lenin heroically, Stalin was strategically removed when it was redone after his death.

I also enjoy communist music:

During the Nazi occupation, French coins went from carrying the rather "Liberal" slogan "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité"

to a slogan that will resonate much more comfortably with American "Conservatives": "Travail, Famille, Patrie"

I'm not saying that American "Conservatives" are indistinguishable from totalitarian regimes: only that there are parallels in art, slogans, and attitudes.

Of course, one of the most famous communist artists of the New World is Diego Rivera:

My device isn't letting me copy and paste an image, but the above link leads to an excellent slideshow.

Only fair, considering Stalin had himself doctored into some images with Lenin.

True, very true - Stalin was a master of doctoring the truth in hindsight.

If this were more disjointed, one might say it resembled a Jon McNaughton.

Totalitarians and Conservatives may have more in common than is otherwise acknowledged.

An unusual "Conservative" artist is Jon McNaughton. http://www.mcnaughtonart.com/

Here is an interesting piece, "One Nation Under God"

Jesus giving us our constitution, with what looks like Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Reagan, and a few other personnages of renoun in the background.

Wait a minute ... are you saying that isn't satire? 8O

Correct. Mormons really do think that Jesus gave the USA its constitution.

Here is Joseph Smith entering the Melchizek priesthood....

Image

...and, Jesus appearing in front of American Indians in North America....

[img][800:335]http://lisawillneverfindthis.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/jesus-christ-in-america.jpg[/img]

Maybe that explains why Jews and Moslems won't allow religious pictures: they don't want to be mocked.

You guys are just lucky that the Nazis were defeated. Otherwise, you would be in really big trouble with the moderators right now.

I thought the same thing - less than seventy years ago, I would have been executed in the town square for saying that. Unfortunately, there's not much art left from that period. We do have some propaganda posters left over, though they're in museums now. It's interesting to see how delusional they were.

Image

Speaking of delusional, this is some more recent cheesy material. It's far-right politician Geert Wilders depicted as his all-time hero, Admiral de Ruyter. Interesting detail: the pirate ship he's apparently getting ready to attack has, on its sails, the flag of the Netherlands Antilles, a constituent nation Wilders wants nothing to do with.
