I think I can ease some of the confusion here.

Anti-abortionists think human life is sacred (and also that it begins at contraception).
Animal rights campaigners think there is nothing special about humans, we're just like every other animal.

Pro-life is traditionally a conservative stand.
Animal rights are traditionally a liberal stand.

A word on animal rights.
Can animals actually have rights? I don't think so or at least not in the legal sense.
There is, however, the moral obligation of stewardship toward animals.
As an example; my dog is spoiled rotten. :D
