To answer your first question, there isn't a political binary here in the US. There is a political
spectrum. I said far left to make the distinction between "center left". I've always thought Bill Clinton as being more center left than "hard left".
I agree that women shouldn't be treated any differently than men. However, many feminists, particularly 2nd wave feminists, do not agree. Actions speak louder than words. People say they're in favor of equality but then the promote policies which favor their interests at the expense of others. If men are women are to be treated the same way, then means women shouldn't get any more sympathy because of their sex than men should.

Feminism isn't about equality, it's about women's self-interests. Why should I favor the special interests of a group that I don't belong to?
