Ahh ... youthful idealism ... too often trampled by the realities of life ... The Bible is a collection of largely apocryphal stories that were embellished upon for decades (or even centuries) before they were ever put into writing. But if believing in a just and loving God (who would send non-believers to a place of eternal torment that is filled with darkness, fire, brimstone and the wailing of the damned) gives you comfort, then more power to you.
I don't believe in such a God. I do believe in a just and loving God who said he will have to be payed the wages of sin by those who rejected him. (Those who never had the chance won't really suffer.)

They're the same thing, according to the Bible.

"Death" being just another colorful metaphor for "Hell".

Ezekiel 28:17-18, "Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee."

Here, God is saying he will burn Satan to ashes...

Revelation 20:10, ''And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.''

Odd..

Oh yeah, what other Bible quote used forever?

Jonah 2:6
''I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars [was] about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.''

He was in the whale for three days!

The Bible is nothing more than a collection of largely apocryphal stories that were embellished on for decades (and even centuries) before ever being written down. It is a self-referential and self-validating work of philosophy, set down in writing to justify imperialism by genocide, slavery, the subjugation of women as second-class citizens, and the giving of money in exchange for absolution of responsibility for one's own "sins".

Ellen White, founder of the Seven Day Adventists movement, made many predictions of the timing of the end of the world. All failed. One of the most blatant false prophecies she made was when she predicted before the American Civil war, that the Union would not be preserved but that the United States would be divided, slavery would not be abolished but England would intervene and declare war on the United States. Any student of history knows differently. But, like so many other false movements, these failed prophecies are swept under the rug and most Seventh Day Adventists today do not even know about them.

On June 27, 1850, she prophesied that only a few months remained before the end. She wrote: "My accompanying angel said, 'Time is almost finished. Get ready, get ready, get ready.' ...now time is almost finished...and what we have been years learning, they will have to learn in a few months."

At Ellen White's last prediction, she said that she was shown in a vision the fate of believers who attended the 1856 SDA conference. She wrote "I was shown the company present at the Conference. Said the angel: 'Some food for worms, some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus." That is, some of the attendees would die of normal diseases; some would die from plagues at the last days, others would still be alive when Jesus came. By the early 1900s all those who attended the conference had passed away, leaving the Church with the dilemma of trying to figure out how to explain away such a prominent prophetic failure.

The Seventh Day Adventist church was founded on false prophesies, and this tradition continues until today.

It's pretty clear to me that in the New Testament (most of it at least), it's suggested that hell is forever and ever. It's quite a stress even.

Nowhere (in the NT at least) does it even suggest otherwise about hell.

I like the mormon version of the afterlife the best. There is no hell, just different degrees of heaven.

You have overlooked Outer Darkness.

But true, Mormon Hell is not hot fire and molten brimstone.

Hell serves as an effective tool to keep many people, including me, on a more straight and narrow path then we would be otherwise..
I'd be a lot naughtier if not for the fear that there might be eternal suffering in store for me.

Last time I said words to that effect here I got called a "moral degenerate".
Who wants the honor this time?
:D

And here I thought that it was your fear of the moderators that was keeping you in line.

Well then, the next time you step out of line, I'll tell God on you, and then you'll be in really big trouble!

Hell, Michigan. Popular spot for biker conventions, Friday-the-13th events, and kooky themed weddings.

According to mormon theology, its not possible to be banished to 'outer darkness' unless you are a prophet who has recieved direct revelation but have still rejected 'the word'. One such example is Judas Iscariot. So unlike Catholic Hell, Outer Darkness is going to be a very lonely place in the literal sense in the word (if you believe in it).

I think the Biblical version of Hell is just as likely as the Biblical version of the age of the earth.
