Not to try and be overly provocative here, but after reading Atlas Shrugged, the only thing I took away was that Ayn Rand was an unimpressive storyteller, and not all that great of a writer. I don't know of any literary scholars that aren't Libertarians or Objectivists who hold her in very high regard. Personally, I thought the motives of her protagonists were unrealistic, the characters who disagreed with Rand's philosophy were straw men, and John Galt's crazy, rambling monologue that everyone who adores her cites, is exactly why there is a need for editors.
Also read some of her shorter, political works. I see the appeal for Aspies and Auties, but practically, it doesn't offer much for our community. Nothing really, other than to be left alone. In my house that's great, but I don't believe that I would want to live in a society like that.
