I expect people in Haiti cannot afford to drink as much Coca-Cola or eat as many McDonalds as the Americans.

our lack of universal health care is kicking us in the butt in terms of the lower classes having inferior life expectancy due to lack of regular health care.

If you are poor it's harder to buy good food, cheap white bread is about $1.00 a loaf, good whole grain is more like three dollars.Bologna is cheaper than ground round.Ditto for boxes of Mac and cheese.Cheaper to make that than buying good cheese and making it your own. Many poor in urban areas have poor access to fresh fruit and vegetables.I watched a show where it was easier to find a handgun for sale than a ripe tomato in some urban areas. The poor in rural areas do better,we can grow fresh food and harvest wild game and fish, plus the wild foods that are available. The food rooms tend to hand out white flour products, sugary stuff and soft drinks,at least here they do.I went once and they gave me a bag of white bread products from MalWart, sodas, cookies and cheap peanut butter. What if that was all you had to feed your kids?If you don't have any other options, then that's all you have to eat.

The school lunches are also terrible,I appreciate what Michelle Obama is trying to do.
My kids were really happy when the school got a salad bar. Then the lunch ladies bitched because they ate too many black olives and cheese in their salad. But to gorge on cookies would have been ok.
Way too much white bread, fat and sugar in the lunches.Even when I was in school they sucked.Giant white buns and no fresh fruit, maybe an apple once in awhile.Overcooked canned vegetables.I knew what real food tasted like.I usually gave most of my school lunch away, some kids were hungry enough to want what I didn't.Possibly the only full meal they got.

there are so few people of goodwill in positions of power in this nation, so our problems fester and multiply.

Correlation is not causation. Being Republican doesn't cause poor health, nor does being white cause good health. Instead, the common denominator of poverty and educational level causes both factors to change together.

Another view is the mobile American. Those with more intelligence, money, education, leave the deep south, for New York, California, Washington.

Those left behind are left in even worse shape.

In general, in pockets of poverty, people get what they can, which is mostly eating and drinking a lot.

Obese TV watchers, low IQ, no goals, for parents, and kids raised on sugar, white flour, who go to schools who pass everyone.

There is little money, and most of that flows out. There is nothing to build on, few things like the Football Cult, that can lead to playing for State, joining the service, and getting a local government job. Most who leave never return.

Those with mechanical skills left for Detroit long ago, the Brain Drain in action. There is nothing left to build on, and other places could do it much better.

It is a lack of intelligence, talent, drive, good genetics, sinking in a gravity well for generation after generation.

Medical care, education, will not cure this problem.

Those chosen to be sold as slaves in Africa, those maybe useful that cleaned out debtors Prisons, swept the streets of Europe for people who should be gone, sent to America, were not great stock to start with. Isolated for generations in a rural Mississippi County, the best left and the worst bred.

The Liberal view that everyone is equal, and just needs a chance, met reality in the movie, Deliverance. The only way to control them is kill them. It was a Hate Crime by Homophobes, and it felt good.

So yes, thankfully, some sectors of the population do die young. It has been the same through history, without the Empire to hold them in check, they return to Paleolithic behavior. Evolution works both ways.

So we live in an experiment, seeing who is fitest to survive. There are stories from Europe, of those who lived under bridges, in caves, and ate travelers. Children were eaten by Dragons. The poor, deprived of their food stamps, will eat.

Towns and cities are both forts and prisons, where the serfs can be confined and controlled. They can be made productive. Records are kept, the missing are looked for.

Murder we find the bodies, autos leave bodies, but a larger number just vanish from the face of the earth never to be found. Aliens? Perhaps, Satanic Cults? but 1500 per State per year, just gone.

That was from the good times, decline speeds it up, and real income is down, mostly on the bottom end, cuts in food stamps, less jobs, and there are those fittest to survive those times.

This is the forth wave of city building, and the first three fell, were abandoned, when people took their chances in the wilderness, when savage forces hunted the cities at night.

Ibn Khaldun in 1300 said cities fall when protecting the people from each other costs so much taxes have to go up, It is a Police State, and both Romans, feed the lions, and Chinese chop off a hundred heads, found regular slaughter was needed.

And then we get the people who make their money in the north, and then move south where the money goes farther.

As opposed to those who refuse to acknowledge that theirs is not the only "correct" view of the world and assume bad faith on the part of anyone who disagrees with them? To say nothing of making sweeping generalizations and mass assumptions about millions of people they don't know?

The biggest determinate of life expectancy in the US is socio-economic status, not the color of skin.

Well that's good then - we've got to the point where the colour of your skin doesn't have much relation to your socioeconomic status.

Our prisons are clogged with the self-medicating mentally ill. How much better off would everyone be if it was easier to get therapy than to get illicit drugs?

Minorities have been here for a long time. I would guess that any recent changes have to do with a switch to a more sedentary lifestyle. Even the kids are getting fatter.
