Never mistake ignorance for hate; it causes so many problems.

One of the main reasons so many avoid the church is because they either don't get any attention, or they get the wrong kind. Christ formed the church as a hospital for sinners, not a country club for saints. I'm reminded of a scene from "X2"...

"Outside of the circus, most people were afraid of me. But I didn't hate them; I pitied them. Most people will never know anything beyond what they see with their own two eyes."

It is the mission of Christians to take the light of God that we have received from Him, and show it to others...not hoard it for ourselves. Jesus made it clear some hate His light, but we're still supposed to offer it, and personal condemnation's the exact opposite.

Fnord, I can propose an explanation. You were not thinking like a member of the church. You did not see those tattoos as sinful and filthy.

It probably has more to do with them trying to stay holy (self-righteous or not) than them not being friendly enough.
A friend of mine was once involved with Satanism, and got a tattoo of the Wiccan "circle star" over his heart. Years later, he received Christ, but still kept the tattoo, to remind him what God had saved him from.

God is much more interested in the soul of a person, than the decorations on their body. So long as they don't become more important than Him to an individual, I think He's okay with it.

MY teacher was mormon. He used to say that the bible said: "Fill the earth and become many". So had given birth and adopted many children.

Genesis does contain a mention of God commanding Adam & Eve to "replenish" the Earth...and in the 1611 dictionary, the primary meaning of that word was "to fill", without the "again".

I'm rather sure that it was less for their ''holiness'', and more of a ''I'm better than them.'' attitude. Not sure how trying to friendly with those who seem to have SOME interest in Christianity and may want to be born again will cause a loss of holiness. (If there were any in the first place.)

Then why even think of tattoos as dirty or something to be saved from?

To be fair, a lot of Seventh-day Adventists aren't any better.

He kept the tattoo as a reminder of his freedom from Satanism.
