Between the two of them:Franklin, and Jefferson, tend to steal the show because of their engaging personalities.

But there is alot to be said for stodgy old George Washington.

like a number of the others on the list, NOT a founder so I would not have chosen her even though she is far greater than many of them just for her great contributions in my life personally.

I picked Thomas Jefferson

Sorry, this is a patriarchy only thread. No Susan B. Anthony, Abigail Adams, Sally Hemings or Santa María, please... :shameonyou:

I voted Benjamin Franklin. Neither "Honest Abe", nor George Washington were the sincere and heroic men history made them out to be.

All of these "Founding Fathers" owned slaves:

Charles Carroll (Maryland)
Samuel Chase (Maryland)
Benjamin Franklin (Pennsylvania)
Button Gwinnett (Georgia)
John Hancock (Massachusetts)
Patrick Henry (Virginia)
John Jay (New York)
Thomas Jefferson (Virginia)
Richard Henry Lee (Virginia)
James Madison (Virginia)
Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (South Carolina)
Benjamin Rush (Pennsylvania)
Edward Rutledge (South Carolina)
George Washington (Virginia)

A vote for any one of them is a vote for slavery.

Only these "Founding Fathers" were NOT slave-owners:

John Adams (Massachusetts)
Samuel Adams ( Massachusetts)
Oliver Ellsworth (Connecticut)
Alexander Hamilton (New York)
Robert Treat Paine (Massachusetts)
Thomas Paine (Pennsylvania)
Roger Sherman (Connecticut)

I selected Thomas Paine, because he became notorious for of his pamphlet "The Age of Reason", in which he advocated deism, promoted reason and freethinking, and argued against institutionalized religion in general and Christian doctrine in particular. Only six people attended his funeral as he had been ostracized for his ridicule of Christianity.

Not sure they're really founding fathers, but either Lincoln or King.

Honourary mention to Thaddeus Stevens, a likeable Radical Republican. Again, not really a founding father in the traditional sense.
