Yeah, those Thai forest monks live out with tigers, cobras, scorpions sleeping with them and they seem to live harmoniously.

A word of warning about the image of the whale and diver. The copyright is held by someone who doesn't appear to grant permission to use the image for free.

But in this case the whalers are the eco-terrorists.

Only if you grossly redefine the term so that it means something much different than its accepted meaning.

An eco-terrorist is someone who use violence against people or property in furtherance of an ecological agenda. They are criminals who should be incarcerated.

If using violence against people and property to advance one agenda is okay, then isn't it okay for any agenda?

Do you really want to live in a world where it is okay for anyone with an agenda to harm you or your family and destroy your property?

When the international community doesn't enforce the rules, individuals will do crazy things. I do think the whaling is singled out though, overfishing in general is a problem that people are not doing much about. The problem is that we don't know enough about the ocean eco systems, so we should probably cut down on the fishing a lot. The European Eel is just one step away from extinction. Whale populations have declined enormously since humans started hunting, and while the hunted species are not near to extinction I believe we should let the population recover to pre-whaling levels before any whaling should be done, if at all. Some species of whales dive deep for food and bring nutrients to higher ocean levels, which is important for the oceanic life near the surface.

We already live in that world. Every side does that. It's just about what side you pick (for example, against radical islamic terrorists, not because they use terrorism as a means, but because their agenda is evil). The resistance fighters in WW2 were terrorists too, but they were our terrorists and they fought a greater evil they had no other means of resisting.

I'm sure that most of us have reposted images that we shouldn't have posted. I just happened to have seen that image before and was curious then if it was photoshopped, which it turns out not to have been.

When Whale Wars was first broadcast, there were some discussions of their actions on a number of maritime forums for professional seamen. The very broad was consensus was that the Sea Shepherds demonstrated extraordinarily poor skills in seamanship and had no business being there because of their lack of skill.

As for the Sea Shepherds, a few years ago they acquired a cannon and Watson ordered it fired at an unarmed fishing boat. Fortunately, the crew was less insane than their "captain" and did not fire at the boat.

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQfBMYxbNz8

Watson should be incarcerated in prison for life for that order.

Yeah, Watson is an as*hole, but this is what you get when people get away with everything. You can't expect people to stand idly by while everything goes to s**t.
