If I knew for certain that is what the future would look like and I would live to see it...then I think that would be good reason to either off myself before such time as that takes place....or join whatever futile revolt arises.
I doubt I am the only one that feels that way. I mean obviously with that in place it would probably mean a lot of restrictions and oppression in lots of other aspects of life so screw that.

That's why vodka was so readily available in the USSR.
I doubt it, peoples' quality of life would no doubt be much the same. Crime would be vastly reduced too. Society would be highly stratified and regimented however so I would imagine that there would probably be an expansion of the extreme poor. Without government oversight there would be greater inequality. I dont think that a totalitarian government would oppress the people however. That would be counterproductive.
Theyre developing antidepressants which actually increase levels of all the important neurochemicals so in half a century I wouldnt be surprised if we have ultraprozac XD
I doubt crime would be reduced, some people are better off doing drugs than not....I mean some people like to have a beer, or a joint to chill out...humans have been using drugs for thousands of years for various reasons. But yes a lot of people might turn to mmore bothersome/serious crime to occupy themselves rather than getting high for instance. Not to mention in a toltalitarian state people would eventually get fed up and turn to 'crime' out of frustration though by then with those brain implants they are working on it might be a crime to think.

Apparently Nikki Sixx cared a lot about making music while addicted to herion, and obviously at one point he cared about not continuing to use it since he doesn't anymore. I don't know sometimes i feel there is too much stigma towards that horrid addiction...and I am sure plenty are concerned about the prospect of ending up in prison as that is a horrid place to be. Also there is also the fact of horrible potentially deadly withdrawls so obviously there is going to be desperation to get that next fix regardless of whatever else they care about.
Lets just say it certainly isn't enjoyable for the sufferer of the addiction.
People with addiction issues usually need some form of help not totalitarianism, and people in general simply don't need totalitarianism.

You can't legislate demand away, you can't control people's wants and desires. Even if you make a drug impossible to get a hold of people just start snorting or huffing something else, a lot of time something more harmful. If the US used 1/10th the money it spent on drug enforcement on rehabilitation and regulation less people would do drugs and we'd live in a better safer world. Street crime in the US isn't caused by drugs, it is caused because of drugs. You've given rise to a whole criminal culture, you've made millions of people criminals that have hurt nobody besides themselves into criminals. Long term heavy alcohol use is more damaging to the body than almost any drug you can think of, when it was illegal there was an unprecedented rise in crime that disappeared once that prohibition was ended.
Are you actually advocating totalitarianism?
The impulse to medicate would presumably satisfied by th state which would provide the equivalent of soma a safe all purpose mood brightener which does not impair functioning in any measurable way.
Cigarettes caffeine alcohol and so forth are todays equivalents but they are patently unfit for purpose. The use of a state supplied drug would reduce impulsivity aggression

You should watch the movie "Serenity", the plot is based on what you suggest. What could possibly go wrong! Not a bad movie by the way.

Well bloody hell what is the fun in that? then it would be like that one movie I watched where they have to take some pill or injection every day to control their emotions because in that society emotions are not good and everything has to be based on 'logic' can't remember the name of the movie but the main character stopped taking his pill/injection and started 'feeling' and well good movie but the society it portrayed did not look like something I'd want to live in that is for sure.
Not sure the desire to get 'high' will be removed from human existance....the mandatory drug you describe wouldn't likely create any high and much of the time people are after getting high.

You are being humorous right? A safe all purpose mood that doesn't impare functioning? Like [] ...square. might as well be a Snickers candy bar. Not happening.

I agree.
I agree too. They do need help. Help getting more drugs. Anything else is a conflict of interest, and it usually does not work. There is the rare case of stupid people believing misconceptions, and lies about drugs, and drug use, however that is not healthy thinking for stupid people to believe for other drug users. They might think drug users are bad, distorted, evil human killers or something.
And of course addiction is a disease. And the only cure is more drugs. How else does modern medicine cure diseases. It doesn't happen from saying no? Like ooh, I have cancer. Well just say no? And boom! Cured!

The film is is Equilbrium XD with Christian Bale and some dour looking blonde dude. It would be the perfect drug. While driving or studying it would increase alertness motivationand focus but while relaxing or contemplating it would increase lateral thinking asssociation relaxation and so on. It would be a powerful psychedelic stimulant etc depending on the situation. Difference is that the drug responds to the user 's needs and enhances whatever state s/he is in.
Even if it didnt do this however drugs could probably be created which act as sentries at all the receptor sites and harvest non native chemicals. In 50 years you'll have to spin really really fast while holding your breath if you want to get high XD

Lol! People seem to think im advocating this. Im trying to prove that the war on drugs could be won with enough punitive and restrictive policies. I would absolutely not want to live in that kind of world but im just playing make believe and working out ways that a total government could kill off the illegal drug market without legalisation

Well than perhaps it is a question of what drug....than. For instance if someone was addicted to opiates and concerned about their health and wanting to quit that, but still need some kind of chemical altering of the brain to feel better....why not marijuana? I mean I am just not sure sobriety is the thing to strive towards for everyone, for some it very well could be counter-productive. Though not sure more drugs cures addiction, but hell they even have meds to alleviate addictions but then the person is still taking that drug on a regular basis to not use another drug.

That drug seemed like it blunted emotions while leaving people still feeling satisfied with their mudane lives....so I doubt if it was real it would act as a psychedelic stimulant, psychedelics do anything but blunt emotions well maybe not anything but you feel and percieve more on psychedelics and are more sensitive to the environment and energies in it.
Also I think I prefer getting stoned or high than spinning around really fast which really only serves to make me dizzy, nauseous and potentially able to pass out....so yeah that world would suck.

No. You need to feed that fire. That is how you win wars. You need more drugs. That's right. If you want to win a war on drugs, you are going to need more drugs. You think you are going to win a real war with less bombs?
